KAS Rule of Law Programme - Middle East and North Africa As a program we aim to promote the rule of law and an independant judiciary in the entire MENA region

Freedom, justice and solidarity are the basic principles underlying the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The KAS is a political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). With more than 80 offices abroad and projects in over 120 countries, KAS makes a unique contribution to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and a social market economy.

To foster peace and freedom KAS encourages a continuous dialog at the national and international levels as well as the exchange between cultures and religions. The Rule of Law Program Middle East and North Africa is one of six regional rule of law programs managed worldwide by the KAS. The Rule of Law Program in the MENA region focuses on the protection of human rights, the separation of powers, an independent judiciary and supports regional cooperation instruments that promote rule of law and democracy. It aims to promote primarily the rule of law development through regional seminars, research and training activities.

Charles Malik’s unwavering commitment to human rights lives on today: “The dignity of man is an ideal worth fighting for and worth dying for.” ✊🌍

As one of the key drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Malik’s vision for justice and human dignity helped shape the cornerstone of international human rights law. On this International Human Rights Day, we honor his legacy and the principles he championed.

Observed every year on 10 December, Human Rights Day marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This landmark document guarantees the fundamental rights and freedoms of every individual, everywhere, regardless of nationality, race, gender, religion, language, or status.

Let us continue to work tirelessly to protect the dignity and rights of all. ⚖️🌐

👩‍⚖️✨ On International Women’s Day, we celebrate justice and equality, inspired by Lady Justice herself. As she stands blindfolded for impartiality, with scales balanced and sword in hand, we’re reminded of the strength and determination of women worldwide. Let’s honor their fight for fairness in law and life. Together, we strive for a world where everyone’s rights are upheld equally.

Eleanor Roosevelt's timeless words echo on this International Day for Human Rights: 'It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.' 🗣️

Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights sets out a broad range of fundamental rights and freedoms to which all of us are entitled. It guarantees the rights of every individual everywhere, without distinction based on nationality, place of residence, gender, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, or any other status.

parties play a central role in systems. At the same time, they influence public opinion. It is therefore necessary to regulate the legal framework of parties in a party law.

The latter must ensure that:
1. The parties themselves abide by democratic and constitutional principles;
2. the financing of parties is regulated;
3. the formal and substantive requirements for banning a party are specified.

Those are three points that every political parties law should include.

Can you think of other aspects?

Come, join and share with us your opinion on the 7th of November starting 4 PM at the Gulbenkian Auditorium, USJ Social Sciences Campus, Huvelin Street – Achrafieh, Beirut, Lebanon.
