📜 🇱🇦🤝🏻🇮🇳 The relationship between Laos and India did not start only in recent decades, but has roots that go back centuries, firmly linked through civilization, culture, religion and people-to-people exchanges.

✅ During the reign of Emperor Ashoka, a delegation of enlightened monks (five enlightened monks) the Buddha image of the Buddha to be installed at ThatLuang, Vientiane, which is the highest symbol of worship in the Lao nation.

✅ The World Heritage Site of Wat Phou Champasak reflects the influence of Hindu tradition (respect for Shiva). At the same time, the great Indian literature "Ramayana" has also been molded into Lao literature as "Phalak-Phraam".

✅ In 1954, India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, presented three sacred Bodhi saplings to the Lao side, which are now growing at Wat Vishun Narath, Wat Phou Si (Luang Prabang) and Wat That Luang Nuea.

✅ 2026 is a year of great historical significance, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and India (February 2, 1956 - February 2, 2026).

India stood by Laos in its national liberation and peace efforts in Indochina through the Conferences of 1954 and 1962.

After 1975, relations have been continuously upgraded through visits by high-level leaders of both countries. Including the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Lao PDR in 2016 and most recently in October 2024 to attend the ASEAN-India Summit.

Economic cooperation between the two countries has a positive trend of growth:

✅ Since 2008, Indian businessmen have invested in Laos in about 77 projects, with a total value of 48 million US dollars (ranked 13th among countries investing in the Lao PDR).

✅ Trade value (2024): Laos exported about 51.1 million US dollars to India (main products: metals and minerals, wood products) and imported about 32 million US dollars from India (main products: machinery, pharmaceuticals).

India is considered an important partner in assisting and developing the Lao PDR in many areas:

✅ World Heritage Conservation: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been actively involved in the restoration and conservation of "Wat Phou Champasak" since 2009.

✅ Support for the irrigation, hydroelectricity (Namboun-2 Dam) and education (Champasak University).

✅ Quick Impact Projects (QIPs): Under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) framework, focusing on health, education, and food security.

✅ Human Resource Development: Through long-term and short-term scholarships (ICCR, ITEC, Colombo Plan) to Lao students and personnel.

✨ "Lao PDR considers India as a great friend and has always trusted each other."

On the occasion of this glorious 70th anniversary, the Government and people of Laos would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Government and people of India for their support and assistance to Laos throughout the struggle for independence and the development of the country. The two countries will continue to work closely together to lift up their comprehensive cooperation to new heights for the benefit of the people of both countries and the world. 🇱🇦❤️🇮🇳
