Jürgen Hinzpeter was a German video journalist who covered Kwangju Massacre on May 18 1980 that took place in South Korea. Chun Doo-hwan military regime killed hundreds of Kwangju citizens to secure legitimacy of its power obtained by a coup d’Éta.
Hinzpeter, an ARD correspondent, taped the incident and informed it to the world. His courageous report eventually contributed to democratization of Korea.
It's worth mentioning that Hinzpeter was not the only alien in the blocked city of Kwangju in 1980. Some 10 foreign correspondents - including Bradley K. Martin, Donald Kirk and Norman Thorpe - were there recording brutal violence committed by the military against its own citizens.
The best way to shoo away the darkness is shedding lights on it.
