An evaluation workshop for the ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฅ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ด๐ ๐๐
๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ (๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฆ) and the ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐ฝ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฉ๐ฒ๐ด๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ด๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ด๐ถ๐ผ๐ป (๐ฉ๐ฒ๐ด-๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด+) was held from October 13 to 17, 2025, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This workshop marked the final review phase, ensuring that both projects successfully met their objectives, delivered their intended outcomes, and captured key lessons for future initiatives, as they approach their completion on 4th quarter of 2025.
The event was successfully conducted through the close collaboration of ๐๐๐๐๐ and the gracious host country institutions: the ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ป๐ผ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ป๐ป๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ and the ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐ป๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฉ๐ฒ๐ด๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ, ๐ ๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฝ๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ, both operating under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The workshop opened with remarks from ๐๐ฟ. ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฑ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ก๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐, Director General of the National Center of Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, Uzbekistan. He welcomed the participants and expressed hopes for continued collaboration to strengthen the impact of the initiatives. This is followed by remarks from ๐๐ฟ. ๐ฆ๐ผ๐ผ-๐๐๐ป ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ, AFACI Program Director, who expressed gratitude and joy at hosting the first AFACI event in Uzbekistan since the country joined the organization. ๐ ๐ฟ. ๐ก๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐๐ต๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ผ๐, Advisor to the Minister on International Cooperation Affairs, delivered a congratulatory message that encourages participating countries.
The RATES session included 28 participants from 12 countries and Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services (GFRAS), while the Veg-Breeding+ session gathered 22 participants from 12 countries and World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg).
๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ก๐ผ๐๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐: ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ต๐ผ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ๐ of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Agricultural Specialists, Uzbekistan, presented the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS), which aims to establish a national UAKIS framework integrating agricultural research, education, and advisory services. ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐น๐ณ๐๐๐ฎ ๐๐ด๐ฎ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฎ of the International Center for Strategic Development and Research in Food and Agriculture delivered a keynote on the state of vegetable production in Uzbekistan, highlighting current production, institutional capacities, and key initiatives.
๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฆ+ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฝ ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐: ๐๐ฟ. ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฉ of GFRAS opened the session with an overview presentation. This was followed by country reports from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and GFRAS. The discussion starts with a presentation from ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป, Executive Secretary of GFRAS. As the oversight body for the RATES program, GFRAS provides expert knowledge and technical guidance. Participants also visited the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, gaining insights into Uzbekistanโs extension systems.

As a key coordinating and technical advisory body, WorldVeg plays a central role in supporting Veg-Breeding+ countries. Participants also visited the Research Institute of Vegetable, Melon Crops, and Potato, providing a valuable opportunity to learn about and share agricultural technologies used in Uzbekistan.
The evaluation workshop served as a platform to share outcomes from the RATES and Veg-Breeding+ projects, focusing on strategies to ensure these results reach farmers and are sustained within each country.
