스피커는 소리를 내보내는 장치인 동시에, 공간의 중심과 위계를 결정짓는 권력의 매개체이기도 하다. 2024년 ACC 사운드 랩의 연구는 이 점에 주목하여 소리의 이동과 분배가 장소의 권력 관계를 어떻게 바꾸는지를 탐구했다. 〈옾〉은 그 연구에서 태어난 작품으로, 헬륨 풍선에 매달린 스피커를 관람객이 직접 움직여 고정된 소리의 질서를 해체하고 자신만의 청취 공간을 만들어가는 경험을 제안했다. 〈옾 2026〉은 이 실험을 한층 정밀하게 확장한다. 전시장 안에 놓인 24개의 스피커 유닛 사이를 걷고 방향을 바꾸고 잠시 멈춰 서는 동안 소리는 거리와 각도, 겹침과 잔향에 따라 매 순간 다른 모습을 드러낸다. 이 과정에서 관람자의 몸은 일종의 센서이자 편집 장치가 되어 소리가 공간에 부여하는 권력을 스스로 재구성하는 공동 구성자의 역할을 맡는다. 이 작품이 던지는 질문의 핵심은 ’무엇을 들었는가‘가 아니라 ’어떻게 들리도록 만들어졌는가‘에 있다.

A speaker is not only a device that projects sound, but also a medium of power that determines the center and hierarchy of a space. In 2024, the ACC Sound Lab’s research focused on this point and explored how the movement and distribution of sound reshape the power relations of a place. Op emerged from that research, proposing an experience in which audiences move speakers suspended from helium balloons to disrupt a fixed sonic order and create their own listening spaces. Op 2026 extends further develops this line of experimentation. As visitors walk among the 24 speaker units installed in the exhibition space, change direction, and pause for a moment, sound takes on a different form at every instant according to distance, angle, overlap, and reverberation. In this process, the visitor’s body becomes a kind of sensor and editing device, acting as a co-constituent that reconfigures the power sound assigns to space. The central question posed by this work is not “what we listen to,” but “how we are guided to listen.”
