Look at how excited these Soldiers are to begin training on the M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) launchers!

These Soldiers committed, at a minimum, a year of service in South Korea to help carry out the mission and were trained to operate this modernized system.

The M270A2 is the Army’s newest variant of the MLRS — a highly mobile, armored, tracked launcher capable of firing precision rockets and missiles at extended ranges. The system brings enhanced survivability, upgraded fire control, and modernized automotive components, making it more reliable and lethal than previous models.

With this training complete, these Soldiers are ready to put their skills into action, ensuring the Steel Battalion remains lethal, capable, and always ready to fight tonight.

Soldiers from Alpha Battery, led by SFC Bauer, conducted driver’s training in support of 13M new equipment training on the M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System.

As the Battalion Master Driver Trainer, SFC Bauer plays a critical role in ensuring Soldiers are properly licensed, trained, and certified to safely operate tactical vehicles. Master Driver Trainers are subject-matter experts who oversee driver’s training programs across the formation, ensuring standards are enforced and Soldiers remain proficient.

We are grateful for SFC Bauer’s leadership and expertise as our formation continues to transition to the modernized M270A2 launchers. Let’s welcome these new systems into the Steel Battalion and the Soldiers who will operate them.

This past week, 1-38 FAR Medical Team completed Operation Dragon Lift, a peninsula-wide medical training event.

Here’s what our medical team shared:

“Training alongside our Korean partners during Dragon Lift was critical for both readiness and interoperability. As medics, we set up our Role 1 station directly alongside the Republic of Korea Army’s Role 1. In a simulated mass casualty event of roughly 30 patients, we received five ROK casualties and were able to observe firsthand how our partners approached treatment compared to U.S. methods.”

“The ROK medics placed heavy emphasis on prolonged point-of-injury care, focusing on stabilizing patients and addressing immediate medical needs before evacuation. In contrast, our approach leaned toward rapid evacuation from the POI to Role 1 care, prioritizing moving casualties out of the danger zone as quickly as possible. This difference in methodology highlighted not only variations in doctrine but also cultural approaches to battlefield medicine.”

“Language barriers were a real challenge, but the ROK’s dual-language TCCC cards helped close the gap and allowed us to coordinate more effectively in real time. The exercise underscored the value of rehearsing mass casualty response in a combined environment—forcing both sides to adapt, communicate, and synchronize under pressure. It gave us an honest look at how each force fights and saves lives, and it ultimately strengthened our ability to operate as one team in future operations.”

Alpha Battery Soldiers sharpened their technical skills by conducting PMCS (Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services) and practicing reloads on the M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System.

PMCS ensures the launcher remains fully mission-capable by identifying and addressing maintenance issues before they impact readiness. Reload training reinforces speed, precision, and crew coordination — critical tasks that keep the section prepared to execute fires when called upon.

Through hands-on training like this, Soldiers build confidence in their equipment, strengthen their proficiency, and ensure the Steel Battalion remains ready to fight tonight.

Laughter is the Best Medicine!

1-38 FAR soldiers had the awesome opportunity to be audience members at the Best Medicine Brigade featuring none other than Tom Cotter! 🎤 After long days and endless to-do lists, a night of laughter was exactly what we needed.

Tom Cotter, the first-ever finalist on America’s Got Talent, has been everywhere—The Tonight Show, Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central—you name it! With a standing ovation on AGT: The Champions and his special Rapid Fire streaming now, it’s no surprise he had the crowd in stitches all night.

Best part? This comedy tour is completely FREE for soldiers across Asia! Big thanks to the team for bringing some much-needed fun our way.

Let’s celebrate Alpha Battery’s NCOs! 🎖️

This recognition took place during the NCO Induction Ceremony, a time-honored Army tradition that marks a Soldier’s transition from the junior enlisted ranks into the Noncommissioned Officer Corps. The ceremony symbolizes the added responsibility of leading, training, and caring for Soldiers, as well as upholding the high standards of the profession.

By crossing into the NCO Corps, these leaders take on the mantle of “the backbone of the Army,” committing themselves to setting the example and ensuring the success of their teams and the mission.

Alpha Battery is proud to welcome and celebrate our newest NCOs as they step forward into this legacy of leadership.

In a short span of time, the Steel Battalion celebrated three major events within Alpha Battery.

SGT Combs was promoted to Staff Sergeant, continuing his service as a 13M Launcher Crew Chief. His promotion was made even more meaningful with his brother present to pin on his new rank.

SGT Doyle and SGT Simpson were also promoted to Staff Sergeant. Both have excelled as Launcher Section Chiefs, demonstrating leadership and technical expertise. Additionally, SGT Simpson re-enlisted, reaffirming his commitment to the Army and the mission.

Today, SSG Doyle continues to serve as the Battery Armorer, while SSG Simpson carries out duties as the COMSEC Representative. Each of these leaders represents the best of Alpha Battery, and their promotions and re-enlistment reflect their dedication to Soldiers, mission, and the profession of arms.

580th representing!

Day 1 of the E2B competition began with the Expert Physical Fitness Assessment, where Soldiers were tested on their strength, endurance, and overall physical readiness. This event set the tone for the demanding challenges ahead, requiring every participant to demonstrate discipline, determination, and resilience.

The 580th is proudly the only organization representing the brigade in E2B. Their commitment and performance highlight not only individual excellence, but also the professionalism and dedication of the entire unit.

Way to go, Caissons — setting the standard and leading from the front.
