Strengthening partnerships at the highest level.

The National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing continued its national outreach with a high-level engagement on Nevis, where members of the St. Kitts delegation, led by Senator Isalean Phillip, met with the Cabinet of the Nevis Island Administration, led by Premier Mark Brantley.

The discussion focused on the ongoing work of the Secretariat, recent engagements across Nevis, and upcoming national initiatives, including the first annual Own Your Summer programme.

The meeting was both meaningful and productive, with strong contributions from both sides and a shared commitment to continued collaboration. The Secretariat reaffirmed that its work is national in scope, with Nevis playing a key role in shaping and advancing these efforts.

Own Your Summer Initiative Launched to Support Youth Engagement Across St. Kitts and Nevis

The National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing has announced the launch of Own Your Summer, a national youth engagement initiative forming part of its broader Summer of
Intervention programme.

The initiative is designed to provide structured, positive opportunities for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 during the upcoming summer holiday period, with a focus on keeping youth constructively engaged across communities throughout the Federation.

According to Coordinator of the National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing, Eartha Carey, the initiative represents a strategic expansion of the Secretariat’s community-based
approach to youth engagement.

“Own Your Summer is about creating meaningful opportunities for young people during a critical period,” Ms. Carey said. “By working alongside community groups, camps, and organisations, we are strengthening the support systems around our youth and helping to ensure that the summer months are both productive and safe.”

The programme will be delivered in partnership with community groups, camps, businesses, and other organisations, building on existing initiatives while introducing additional activities aimed
at youth development. Activities will include sports and recreation, mentorship, skills development, and creative and
educational engagement. Opportunities for older participants will also include internship and exposure programmes.

Ms. Carey emphasised that the initiative is grounded in the Secretariat’s human security framework, which focuses on prevention, early intervention, and creating environments that
support positive outcomes for young people.

“This is not about replacing what already exists in our communities,” she added. “It is about supporting and strengthening those efforts, ensuring that more young people have access to structured, engaging opportunities during the summer period.”

Community organisations, camp operators, and youth groups are being encouraged to partner with the Secretariat by registering their interest and learning more about the support available
through the initiative. This includes coordination support, programme enhancement, and collaboration opportunities aimed at expanding the reach and impact of summer activities across
the Federation.

The Secretariat noted that the success of the initiative will depend on strong community partnerships and broad participation from stakeholders across the country.

Interested organisations are invited to contact the National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing to enrol and receive further information on participation and support.

The Own Your Summer initiative is expected to roll out in the coming months as part of ongoing efforts to promote safety, wellbeing, and opportunity for young people across St. Kitts and Nevis.

STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF JERMAINE "CHUBBY" CLARKE

The National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing is deeply saddened at the tragic loss of life recorded last night in Keys Village.

We extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Jermaine “Chubby” Clarke, a talented young entertainer and father whose contribution to the cultural and entertainment landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis will be remembered. His passing is a profound loss to those who knew and loved him, as well as to the wider community.

While this loss is deeply felt given his role within the creative sector, it also serves as a reminder that every life is precious, and every life lost to violence and gun-related crime is a tragedy. Each incident represents not only the loss of an individual, but also the disruption of families, communities, and the social fabric of our nation.

As the Easter holiday weekend continues, the Secretariat urges all citizens and residents to act responsibly, exercise restraint, and prioritise the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Moments of tension can be managed without escalation as the choices made in those moments carry lasting consequences.

We also take this opportunity to remind the public that the National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing remains available to provide support and access to resources, including counselling referrals and intervention services. Individuals and families in need of assistance are encouraged to contact the Secretariat by calling 869-665-1067. Calls and WhatsApp messages may also be sent to 869-667-7257, or via email at [email protected].

Persons with information that may assist the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force with ongoing investigations are urged to contact the nearest police station or submit tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers hotline at 707. All information shared with the Police or the Secretariat will be handled with the utmost confidentiality and discretion.

St. Kitts and Nevis has made significant progress in reclaiming its sense of safety, with notable reductions in homicides and other forms of violence. This progress reflects the combined impact of strong law enforcement efforts and a public health approach to crime and violence prevention, working together to address both immediate threats and their underlying causes. It is the result of a collective national effort, and one that must be protected and strengthened.

This is our home. It requires each of us - as individuals, as neighbours, and as communities - working in partnership with law enforcement and national institutions, including the National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing, to ensure that it remains safe and secure.

Together, we can continue to build and sustain a more peaceful future for ourselves and for the generations to come.
