πŸ„πŸŒΎ Supporting Farmers, Strengthening Food Security

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources is pleased to acknowledge the generous donation of animal feed from ECGC East Caribbean Feeds. This feed will be used for a development program to assist our livestock farmers and strengthen agricultural production across the Federation.

Partnerships such as these play an important role in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the livestock sector, while helping farmers meet the growing demand for locally produced meat and livestock products.

The Ministry extends its sincere gratitude to ECGC East Caribbean Feeds for this meaningful contribution and its continued commitment to agricultural development and food security in St. Kitts and Nevis.

πŸ€πŸ‡°πŸ‡³ Together, we continue to invest in a stronger, more resilient agricultural sector.

🌊 BBNJ Workshop – Day 3

Day Three concluded with discussions on Capacity Building and the Transfer of Marine Technology (CBTMT), as well as implementation strategies and next steps for advancing the BBNJ Agreement in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Participants explored national priorities, institutional arrangements, legislative considerations, and collaborative approaches to strengthening ocean governance and fulfilling the country's obligations under the Agreement.

The workshop culminated in a certificate presentation ceremony, recognizing participants for their active engagement and commitment throughout the three-day capacity-building programme.

During the closing ceremony, Hon. Samal Duggins, Minister responsible for Marine Resources, expressed appreciation to the facilitators β€” Mr. Kenroy Simmons, Dr. Jane Collins, and Ms. Alison Swaddling β€” for sharing their expertise and guiding participants through the key elements of the BBNJ Agreement. The Minister also thanked all participants and stakeholders for their valuable contributions and commitment to strengthening marine governance in St. Kitts and Nevis.

As the workshop comes to a close, the knowledge gained and partnerships strengthened will support the Federation's efforts to sustainably manage and protect its marine resources for future generations. πŸŒŠπŸ€πŸ‡°πŸ‡³

Tribute to Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox πŸ•ŠοΈ

The Department of Marine Resources extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Barbados on the passing of Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox, Chief Fisheries Officer of Barbados.

Dr. Cox was a respected leader, ocean governance expert, and passionate advocate for the sustainable development of the fisheries sector. Throughout her career, she championed science-based decision-making, innovation, and regional collaboration in support of our shared marine resources.

Her contributions to fisheries management and ocean governance across the Caribbean will not be forgotten. We honour her legacy of service and dedication and join the wider regional fisheries community in mourning this tremendous loss.

May she rest in eternal peace. πŸ•ŠοΈ
