The Mondulkiri Project is run by the Cambodian Elephant Rescue Organisation, a registered Cambodian ngo. Our aims are to protect a forested valley from logging and create an elephant sanctuary for rescued elephants to retire to away from elephant rides and hard physical. We invite people to visit the Project – a forested area with beautiful waterfalls, swimming holes and valleys, located near Sen

Monorom. Our elephant sanctuary is now home to rescued elephants who are free to roam around doing whatever elephants love to do - eating, drinking, scratching against trees and playing in the mud. We offer a variety of jungle trekking options, encounters with elephants, information on Bunong customs and traditions. The Mondulkiri Project's mission is to support the local community by providing it with an opportunity to have an income without having to cut down all its forests. The forests are a limited resource facing increasing pressures from rubber plantations and farming.

There’s a moment when everything goes quiet.
No phones. No talking.
Just you… and an elephant choosing to come close.
That’s something most people never experience.

Thank you Carine Baldi for visiting us — and for sharing your photos.

"I had an incredible day at the Mondulkiri Project Elephant Sanctuary during a day trek, and it was undoubtedly one of the most memorable experiences of my trip to Cambodia.

From the very beginning, the team gave us a warm welcome and took the time to explain the sanctuary's project, which aims to protect and give a new life to elephants formerly exploited in tourism or for work. You immediately feel that the animals' well-being is the priority.

The guides are passionate and explain the elephants' history and the sanctuary's conservation work very well.

I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to discover elephants in an ethical and responsible way.

BOOK your place online before you go".

"A superb experience, including feeding and bathing with the elephants. The guides speak excellent English and provide lots of information about the association.

The meals were generous, and the night spent in a comfortable hammock was wonderful. All the necessary accommodations are available on site. There's a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the evenings.

The approximately 18km trek was manageable, and you can swim in a waterfall during your meal.

I highly recommend this experience!

Thanks for your very detailed 5* google review Jane and for sharing a photo of 'Happy'.

"We are not ones for early starts but this was definitely worth it!

After meeting at the project's offices in Sen Monorom, we were driven to the project and our guide gave us some background to its foundation.

We then walked into the jungle to meet with Happy and then Comvine and Princess who just appeared out of the undergrowth and came over to us so that we could feed them some bananas.

It was then back for a substantial and tasty lunch and a rest at the hammock station.

Suitably rested and after a drink of tea/coffee, we headed back to meet Happy by the river and Comvine and Princess at the waterfall.

If you wanted to (I did) you could join them in the river! It was then back to the project to be driven back to Sen Monorom.

At no time during the day did we feel rushed and it was absolutely amazing to see these beautiful animals up close.

All have had poor starts to life but will now live out the rest of their lives in the jungle with the freedom to wander wherever they want (although they're anybody's friend for a banana!)

It was also definitely good value for money and I would highly recommend it!!

🎉 500 Google Reviews — Thank You! 🐘💚

Today we’re celebrating a huge milestone, and it’s all thanks to YOU — our amazing guests, supporters, and friends around the world.

But most importantly, this achievement belongs to our wonderful Bunong staff, who put their hearts into caring for the elephants and entertaining our guests every day. Their knowledge, culture, and deep connection to the land are the foundation of everything we do.

We are proud to be the only elephant sanctuary in Cambodia that is managed entirely by Cambodians, and especially proud that our Bunong team leads every part of the project — from elephant care to guiding and cooking.

Your visits, reviews, and kind words help support local jobs, community-led conservation, and a better future for rescued elephants.

🌿 From our family to yours — thank you for helping us reach 500 reviews and a 4.7/5 rating!

Here’s to the next 500, and to many more years of protecting elephants together. 💚🐘

A peaceful moment by the river 🌿🐘

Our elephants love to spend time near the waterfall, cooling off and enjoying the forest sounds around them. Watching them live freely in nature is what makes every visit to the Mondulkiri Project so special.

Comvine and Princess — two gentle souls, one unbreakable bond. 💚🐘

Comvine (on the left) is gently reaching out to her best friend Princess (on the right) — a simple moment that shows how elephants express care and connection.

Elephants communicate in many ways — through sound, body language, and especially through touch. A light trunk resting on another’s shoulder can mean comfort, reassurance, or simply friendship.

At the Mondulkiri Project, we love seeing these natural interactions between elephants who are free to just be elephants — no riding, no chains, no forced performances. Just peaceful forest life, shared with those they trust. 🌿
