The AOT-TH team went to inspect the site immediately after the incident, based on an assessment of the above ground conditions, the mine placement pattern, and the signs of the burial, found that the PMN-2 mines were planted during the latest clashes, consistent with previous incidents in the Cambodian-Thai border conflict. The PMN-2 mines were found intact. No new mines have been found in the Cambodian-Thai border conflict. This is according to the Cambodian side.
The inspection by the engineering unit, together with the AOT-TH, also found that additional mines may have been planted in the area and that immediate clearance operations could not be carried out due to the safety risk to the officers in the area.
In addition, the AOT-TH team systematically confirmed the coordinates of all mine detection points using mobile GPS (Google Map) along with geographical maps. The inspection results clearly showed that all locations were entirely within Thai territory, with no points outside the Thai border.
Importantly, the head of the AOT-TH team inspected the private mobile phones of Cambodian soldiers who had left behind when they withdrew from the Burmese area. Inside the phone, photos, videos and registration data were found that clearly belonged to the Cambodian side, including images of PMN-2 mines being planted and buried, as well as images of Cambodian soldiers operating in the minefield. In Thai territory.
“The observers also confirmed that the area was previously a forward operating base during the conflict and that the mines were likely planted during the recent tensions, not old mines remaining in the area as explained by the Cambodian side.
“The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Headquarters would like to reiterate that all information is factual, derived from direct observation, physical evidence, geographical coordinates, photographs, videos and scientific analysis by the AOT-TH team, which is neutral, transparent and operates in accordance with all international standards.
“Thailand adheres to all agreements under the bilateral framework, whether GBC, JBC or Joint Observer Agreement. We always operate based on the principles of peace, transparency and international standards to resolve the situation constructively and prioritize the safety of the people of both countries.
“At the same time, the Thai side has also found cases where the Cambodian side has provided information inconsistent with the facts in various discussion forums, which has affected the atmosphere of negotiations and trust in the cooperation mechanism.
“The Royal Thai Armed Forces will continue to operate in a transparent, clear and verifiable manner through bilateral mechanisms at all levels to present the truth to the community in all relevant forums and to firmly protect Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
