Arabuko-Sokoke Forest

Arabuko-Sokoke Forest The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is the largest stretch of coastal dry forest remaining in Eastern Africa. It is a haven for birds, and it is in danger.
(1)

Once, a dry coastal forest stretched for 4,000 km from Somalia to Mozambique. Now, the largest fragment is Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, which covers 400 km2. It’s one of the most important forests for wildlife in all of Africa, providing a home for six globally threatened birds, two remarkable species of elephant-shrew and about a hundred African Elephant. If anywhere in the world should be protected fo

r its unique wildlife, it’s this forest. Now, it’s threatened by seismic surveys for gas and oil. Roads are already being cleared into the forest. A Rocha, other NGOs and local community leaders have sent petitions to government bodies, asking for the surveys to be stopped.

The ASSETS scheme is a concept that really works. With its superb ability to encompass all the parties that have a say in the conservation of Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, it has proved effective in bringing about the change we all want to see.

Last year's Sokoke MTB challenge helped us raise full year Eco-bursaries for 16 students! That is a great accomplishment worth celebrating.
Today we are proud to celebrate one of our key partners who played a huge part in this, Lordship Africa. Lordship have been a HUGE blessing since day one. From when we first began in 2019, Lordship Africa have always come through to support, and in a great way.

Through their help, dedication and consistence, we have been able to achieve a lot. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that Sokoke MTB wouldn't be what it is now if it weren't because of them. Thank you so much Lordship Africa, we value you.

Our activities commenced in the United Kingdom at the end of the 1980‘s and LORDSHIP continues to grow, having completed over 600,000 sqm. of commercial and residential accommodation to date in Central Europe.

One of the aftermaths of Covid that we are still nursing is the significant drop in funds for the ASSETS programme. It has been really difficult to raise enough cash to pay school fees for students who are currently in the programme.

With the new academic year approaching, we are inviting all our friends to join us in raising funds to keep this amazing programme that has proved to work for the last 20 years going. We have send out an appeal and set up a GoFundMe page (linked below) to help us achieve this.

Please take a look at it, share as wide as possible, even as you reach in your pockets and help us make a difference in the lives of kids surrounding Arabuko-Sokoke Forest. Stand with ASSETS, stand with us, even us we aim to stand with these kids. Every blessing even as you purpose to give!
