NYERI COUNTY FETED FOR BUDGET TRANSPARENCY!

Nyeri County has been ranked the overall best in the Country for promoting transparency, participation and accountability on matters budget. According to the Kenya County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) Nyeri County scored 72 points followed by West Pokot (71) and Elgeyo Marakwet 69 points.

In order to allow the citizens to shape the County Budget priorities, the County Assembly of Nyeri Under the leadership of the Speaker Hon. John Kaguchia has ensured adherence to the principles of proactive disclosure and the requirement of Public Finance Management Act which requires timely publishing of the requisite and comprehensive budget information on the County websites. As such, the County Assembly and the County Executive have been at the forefront in ensuring consistency in publishing budget information. This has been instrumental in achieving transparency and openness in the County. As a result, Nyeri has been honored as the overall best County on matters budget and transparency.

Nyeri County is among the Counties with the most transparent budget. The annual survey conducted by the International Budget Partnership Kenya(IBPK) evaluated how many documents a County uploads on its website, the County published 10 key documents that were evaluated in the CBTS 2021.

In his congratulatory message, the Speaker lauded both the County Assembly and the Executive for the cordial working relationship and for allowing the public to seek and receive Public documents adding that it serves as a critical tool for citizens to exercise their voice and enter into informed dialogue about decisions which affect their lives.

HOUSE APPROVES NYERI COUNTY ABBATOIRS MANAGEMENT AND MEAT CONTROL BILL, 2022

The County Assembly of Nyeri yesterday approved the Nyeri County Animal Control and Abattoirs Management Bill, 2022 which seeks to provide for a regulatory and enforcement Framework for proper Management of Abattoirs, slaughter and dressing of livestock for human consumption and to make provision for veterinary and hygiene control in such abattoirs.

While moving the motion for third reading , the Sponsor of the Bill and Mweiga Ward MCA Hon. Njuguna Kawanjiku noted that the Bill will ensure the general control and inspection of slaughtering and processing of livestock for human consumption. The Bill will also ensure that any person operating an abattoir or slaughter house shall observe the appropriate hygiene requirements.

The Bill further provides that all carcasses and meat shall be re-inspected as often as may be necessary by inspectors and veterinary officers to ascertain that the carcasses or meat are still fit for human consumption at the time they leave the slaughter house.

Additionally, rooms, places and equipment used for dressing, preparing, storing or handling meat shall be kept clean and in a sanitary condition. In approving the Bill, the Hon. Members observed that the premises of every abattoir or slaughter house should be kept clean and in working and orderly condition.

In a sitting Chaired by the Speaker, Hon. John Kaguchia, the House strongly supported the Bill and it will now be forwarded to H.E Governor Mutahi Kahiga for assent.
