Today, Tana Water Works Development Agency through the Ministry Of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation was pleased to host a delegation from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) and the Group.

Our discussions focused on transformative collaborations to enhance water and sanitation services, including:

1. ​Smart Metering: Implementing advanced digital technology to significantly reduce non-revenue water.
2. ​Flood Management: Utilizing sophisticated tools for better disaster preparedness.
3. Wastewater Treatment: Exploring innovative solutions for sustainable wastewater management.
4. Groundwater Management: Real time groundwater monitoring and treatment solutions for groundwater.
5. Research: Opportunities for research and localisation of available solutions to suit local conditions.

We look forward to a productive partnership, leveraging global research and expertise to provide improved water and wastewater services to the communities we serve.

TWWDA CEO Eng. Philip Gichuki participated in a high level consultative meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir CBS, bringing together he State Departments for Water & Sanitation, Housing and Urban Development, and Public Works together with Development Partners led by Sanitation Hygiene Fund and the African Population and Health Research Center to deliberate on embedding safely managed Non-Sewered Sanitation Systems (NSS) within the country’s housing and urban development agenda.
The engagement focused on translating national sanitation policy into enforceable, large-scale implementation through coordinated planning, infrastructure development, and regulatory alignment.

Tana Water Works Development Agency CEO Eng. Philip Gichuki participated in a meeting called by the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, CBS, regarding the Implementation Support Mission of the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Program in partnership with the African Development Bank.
The meeting noted significant progress under the Kenya Towns Program, which is now 90% complete, with 32 projects already commissioned. Key issues discussed included the need to fast-track land compensation processes and enhance project sustainability, particularly through solarization of pumping schemes to reduce energy costs.
The Principal Secretary called on all implementing agencies to intensify coordination and undertake weekly monitoring of project activities to ensure timely completion ahead of the program closure in December 2026.
The engagement reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to delivering sustainable water and sanitation solutions while restoring critical ecosystems for the benefit of all Kenyans.

Strengthening our digital resilience

The ICT Division conducted a staff sensitization session on cybersecurity, focusing on emerging cyber risks, safe digital practices, and the protection of the Agency’s information systems and data. The session provided valuable insights on how staff can play an active role in safeguarding organizational information and maintaining secure digital operations.

As technology continues to evolve, staying vigilant and informed remains essential in protecting our systems and ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of our data.
