There has been a sudden surge in the opening and groundbreaking of new hospital buildings across Mombasa County by the Governor. But as residents, we must ask are these really priorities that address the suffering of wananchi or are they political projects meant to create the perception of development ahead of reelection campaigns?
why continue putting up new structures while existing public hospitals are struggling with poor service delivery, lack of medication, inadequate medical equipment and alot of negligence? In hospitals like Makadara residents are suffering daily. Patients are often referred to private hospitals even for basic procedures because county facilities cannot provide essential services. Some hospitals lack even basic necessities.
What is the logic of constructing more buildings when the current hospitals are under-equipped and unable to serve the people effectively? Development is not about launching projects and cutting ribbons for cameras. Real development is ensuring hospitals are functional, stocked with medicine, properly equipped and staffed to save lives.
The people of Mombasa deserve quality healthcare, not endless groundbreaking ceremonies meant to impress voters. Public funds should be used prudently to improve existing facilities and restore dignity in our healthcare system.
Many residents are now questioning whether these projects are genuinely for maendeleo or simply opportunities for contractors and political campaigns.
It pains us that wananchi must suffer despite the county having resources. Mombasa deserves better leadership, better planning, and better priorities.
