I joined H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH at Rumuruti as he held the third consultative meeting with 600 women drawn from Rumuruti, parts of Salama,Sosian and Marmanet wards to deepen the ongoing conversation of making women an integral part of development discourse in Laikipia county.

The county-wide conversation that began in Nanyuki three days ago, then Nyahururu on Friday has now incorporated 1400 women leaders from various interest groups.

Todays meeting in Rumuruti Municipality focussed on active engagement with women in the development agenda in Laikipia County.
Delegates were drawn from various sectors including youth groups, civil society,Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) religious groups, traders, among others.

During this inaugural Stakeholders Forum for Women’s Participation in Development, we have had deep discussion on topics from provision of 50,000 water harvesting and storage tanks each of 3,000 litres capacity to families , to how women can be self reliant through engaging in income generating activities.

I encouraged all the women who will benefit from this project to be intentional on rain-harvesting and storage to start kitchen gardens to boost food and nutritional security and family income by selling the surplus.
I would like to thank development partners who are working with us to realise this dream to thousands of laikipian women

I joined H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH on a successful meeting with around 400 women leaders at Nyahururu Social Hall to discuss their active engagement in the County government's development agenda.

The women from Igwamiti ward, parts of Salama and Marmanet wards were drawn from youth groups, civil society, persons living with disabilities (PWDs), religious groups and traders among others.

The discussions centered on provision of 50,000 tanks each of 3,000 litres to local households to boost water harvesting and storage for domestic consumption and kitchen garden farming.

As project patron across the county, I am encouraged that these tanks will drastically reduce time and energy women spend in searching for and fetching clean water from long distances.

I will also free up enormous time for other productive activities besides enhancing their dignity, safety and security especially for young girls.

The tanks also will enable women do kitchen gardening to improve food security and boost family income by selling surpluses.

I wish to appreciate all well wishers and partners who have embraced this noble cause in partnership with the county government in making access to clean water a reality for so many households.

Previlded to join His Excellency Governor Joshua Irungu as he launched two important documents: the County Integration Development Plan 2023-2027 and the Laikipia County Statistical Abstract 2023.

These documents outline our county’s policies, development priorities and strategies designed to align with the country’s development agenda of Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to uplift the standard of living in our county.

We also dedicated our county offices to a service conducted by the Laikipia clergy.

This event pulled together county leadership and community members to evidence the milestone vision of making Laikipia great.

Earlier today, together with LCDA team led by Director Charles Ndirangu , we had an engagement with community based organizations that believe in Healthcare & Nutrition, Water & Environmental Management, Social protection and Adolescent Empowerment.
We sort to address the gaps in various thematic areas and harness synergies to improve livelihoods, through cooperation with IMPACT Kenya and The Leo Project.

Yesterday was an incredible day as I had the honor of attending the launch of the Adolescent Empowerment Project at Karandi Primary School. This groundbreaking initiative is a collaborative effort between the Laikipia County Development Authority LCDA, the Department of Health, and Bethel Networks. Together, we aim to empower young adolescents with essential life skills and knowledge that will positively shape their futures.

The event focused on several crucial aspects of adolescent development, including self-awareness, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, assertiveness and goal setting. Additionally, the project emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene management and puberty education, ensuring that both boys and girls received the necessary information and support.

During the program, attention was given to the girls, who were taught various aspects of maintaining good hygiene and confidence during menstruation. They were provided with comprehensive guidance on how to properly use, remove, and dispose of sanitary products. The young girls were also educated about the signs that indicate when their period is approaching, empowering them to better understand their bodies and take care of their needs.

Another essential aspect covered during the session was teaching the girls how to calculate their menstrual cycle days. This knowledge will enable them to plan and prepare effectively, ensuring they have the necessary supplies and support during their periods. By equipping these young girls with this vital information, we are helping them navigate this significant transition with confidence and dignity.

Notably, the initiative also provided care packs to both boys and girls, recognizing that the education and support surrounding puberty should be inclusive and comprehensive. These care packs will serve as a valuable resource, further empowering the adolescents and contributing to their overall well-being.

I am incredibly proud to be part of this initiative, and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Laikipia County Development Authority, the Department of Health, and Bethel Networks for their commitment and dedication to the youth in our community. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of these young individuals, providing them with the tools they need to thrive and succeed.

Break the Stigma

I joined my fellow champions of Menstrual Health to mark the first ever Menstrual Health Summit at the County offices in Nanyuki. For far too long, an important aspect of women's health has often been shrouded in secrecy and stigma. It's time to break the silence and normalize conversations about menstruation. Let's empower and educate everyone about this natural and essential bodily process.
On this day, I got to listen , learn, and contribute to a very informative panel of experts across various fields as they expounded on issues surrounding menstrual health and equity.

Menstrual health is not just about periods; it's about ensuring access to hygienic products, proper education, and supportive environments for people who menstruate. No one should face discrimination, shame, or limited opportunities due to their menstrual cycle.

We must promote inclusivity, raise awareness, and work towards achieving menstrual equity worldwide. Together, we can make a difference by:

🌸 Advocating for affordable and accessible menstrual products for all. Providing an all rounded package to both boys and girls, including inner wear and menstrual kits for girls, that can last them for their entire cycle. 🌸 Educating ourselves and others about menstrual health and debunking myths. 🌸 Harmonising efforts by coming together as local, international, and private organisations to offer effective and sustainable menstrual health management campaigns 🌸 Creating safe spaces for open discussions and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation. Involving communities, parents, and schools in educating girls about menstruation. 🌸 Encouraging policies and initiatives that prioritize menstrual health education in schools and workplaces.🌸Using the media, celebrities, influencers, and trend setters to normalise and promote positive and impactful conversations and messages surrounding menstrual health and equity.
