We were honoured to lead the Laikipia County Cooperative Societies Forum in commemorating the 103rd International Co-operative Day at Rumuruti Stadium. This year’s celebration highlighted the vital role that cooperative societies and SACCOs play in driving inclusive economic growth and empowering communities at the grassroots level.
Together with the County Government, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening cooperative development through sound policy, institutional support, and innovation aimed at building a vibrant and sustainable cooperative sector.

A key highlight of the event was the issuance of enterprise fund loan cheques worth Ksh 3,650,000 to 18 groups from Laikipia West and North, as well as Ksh 12,000,000 in revolving fund cheques to 8 cooperative societies across the county. These investments are a testament to our continued efforts to boost cooperative financing and unlock local economic potential.

Over the past two days, the Department, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works, has continued to make significant strides in enhancing local trade infrastructure across Laikipia County.

Yesterday, we conducted a successful site handover for the installation of floodlights in Mastoo (Githiga Ward), and in Posta and Maundu Meri towns (Sosian Ward). This initiative is aimed at improving security and extending business hours, fostering a safer and more vibrant environment for our traders and residents. The same day also saw the commencement of construction works for a Tourism Information Center at the Nanyuki Equator, a strategic step toward supporting our growing tourism economy.

Today, installation of floodlights continued at Muruku and Checkpoint towns in Salama Ward, further affirming our commitment to inclusive development across wards.

Tomorrow, our joint team will proceed to Umande Ward for the renovation and construction of new boda boda shades, and to Mukogodo East Ward for the gravelling of the Ngarendare Market/Center.

These ongoing projects reflect the County Government's continued efforts to support small-scale traders, improve market accessibility, and stimulate local enterprise development throughout Laikipia.

The show attracted over 70 exhibitors, offering a wide range of solutions in agriculture, value addition, manufacturing, and financial services. Their participation highlighted the strength of partnership and knowledge-sharing within the CEREB economic bloc.

We reaffirm our commitment to fostering a robust and sustainable agricultural economy by promoting climate-smart practices, advancing agribusiness, and supporting innovation across value chains. By empowering farmer cooperatives, producer groups, and small enterprises, we are laying the foundation for inclusive economic growth, stronger rural livelihoods, and a more competitive county economy. Together, we can harness emerging opportunities to build a resilient and prosperous Laikipia.
