The Mai Mahiu floods tragedy has sparked a debate on the incomplete projects initiated by former Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui, specifically the Mai Mahiu Level 4 Hospital.
If the hospital was operational, casualties would not need to be transferred to hospitals miles away in Naivasha, Kiambu, Nakuru, and other locations.
The Sh155 million hospital project was handed to the contractor on January 28, 2021. When Lee was leaving office, the project was 90% structurally complete. However, Kihika's administration has made no progress since then. It remains a shell.
Lee built the hospital to cater to local health needs, accidents on Mai Mahiu and Narok highways, SGR, Inland Container Depot, special economic zone, as well as to decongest Naivasha Subcounty Hospital.
The hospital was to have modern theaters, labs, x-rays, an imaging center, pharmacies, wards, and other amenities.
In her swearing-in speech, Kihika promised to complete all of Lee's projects before initiating her own. When will this happen?
