Amen

Before I was born, my home was full of smiles.
On the day I came, those smiles got even bigger.
“IT’S A BOY!”
Congratulations to Mom.
They Welcomed Me With Smiles
And they gave me a beautiful name: Wisdom.

But without them knowing...
They were welcoming a sickle cell child.
A child who would give them sleepless nights because of pain.
A child who would turn their home into a hospital.
A child who would make them leave their comfortable home almost every day for hospitalizations.

Without them knowing...
They were welcoming a child who would make them abandon important jobs, meetings, and business just to sit by my bed.
A child whose medicine and special food would drain their pockets.
A child who would struggle to finish school.

Without them knowing...
Society would give us all new names.
Not Wisdom.
They called me “Hospital Child.”
They called me “Epileptic Child.”
They called me “Sickle Cell Guy.”

And they didn’t stop there.
They called my Mom “That hospital child’s mother.”
My brother “That hospital child’s brother.”
My sister “That hospital child’s sister.”

As if the whole family was renamed by my condition.

And in the middle of fighting sickle cell...
I inherited another battle: Epilepsy.
Now I fight both. At the same time. Every single day.

BUT...
I still believe in my God.
And I believe that day is coming.
The day I will look back and say: "This is the doing of the Lord. The Lord has done it."

The day my name will transform.
From “Sickle Cell Guy” to “Miracle.”
From “Hospital Guy” to “God’s Doing.”
From “Epileptic Guy” to “Healing.”
From “That hospital child” to “Testimony.”
From “Pain” to “God At Work.”

I am still Wisdom.
And I refuse to let sickle cell or epilepsy have the last word over my life.

To anyone who’s been renamed by their condition: Don’t lose hope.

THE MAN WHO CARRIED JESUS' CROSS BUT NEVER VOLUNTEERED... READ TO THE END...

Matthew 27:32; Mark 15:21; Luke 23:26

Like Simon from Cyrene, you didn’t volunteer to live with epilepsy.
Living with epilepsy was not in your life plan. It was handed to you maybe through a head injury, delayed labour, the aftermath of a stroke, or meningitis.
Furthermore because you are living with epilepsy you are maybe obligated to engage in epilepsy advocating. Never in your wildest dreams did you imagine that you will be an advocate for epilepsy issues. Like Simon of Cyrene
You did not volunteer.
You did not choose.

Think about that.

THE GREATEST ASSIGNMENT OF YOUR LIFE WAS NOT SOMETHING YOU AND I APPLIED FOR.

How many of us are frustrated because life has handed us responsibilities we never requested?

You never prayed to become a person living with epilepsy.

You never dreamed of fighting sickness.

You never expected to live with epilepsy.

You never imagined carrying burdens that were never part of your plans.

Yet, here you are.

Carrying a cross of epilepsy you never volunteered to carry.

Simon teaches us a profound truth:

NOT EVERY DIVINE ASSIGNMENT BEGINS WITH YOUR PERMISSION.

Some of God's greatest purposes arrive disguised as interruptions.

What looked like an inconvenience became Simon's greatest honour.

History has forgotten the names of many people who stood around the cross that day. History will forget your efforts in advocating for epilepsy.

But those who are living with epilepsy will remember those who advocated their issues.

How many blessings have we missed because we were too busy complaining about unexpected assignments?

Sometimes we pray for significance, but reject the very responsibility that would make our lives meaningful.

Simon probably thought, a person living with epilepsy probably thought

"Why me?"

He did not know that millions of people would read his name for generations.

SOMETIMES THE BURDEN YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT IS THE VERY THING GOD WILL USE TO WRITE YOUR NAME INTO SOMEONE ELSE'S STORY.

Life will sometimes hand you a cross before it hands you a crown.

Do not despise the season of carrying.

Your interruption may become your testimony.

Your burden may become your legacy.

Your unexpected assignment may become the greatest evidence that God trusted you with something that mattered.

The cross Simon carried was not his own.

Yet, for a brief moment, he walked beside Jesus.

Perhaps that is the deepest lesson of all.

WHEN YOU HELP CARRY WHAT MATTERS TO CHRIST, YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF CLOSER TO CHRIST THAN YOU EVER EXPECTED.

So, if life has placed a heavy cross on your shoulders, do not lose heart.

You may not have volunteered.

But God knew you could carry it.

And one day, you will discover that what felt like an interruption was actually an invitation into a greater purpose.

LET THERE BE LIGHT...

As written in Galatians 4:4-5, Jesus had to be born under the law to redeem those under the law and fight sin from a human level. This verse inspires me to reach out to the persons who are living with epilepsy (kifafa) because I have experienced epilepsy in a very personal way. Like Jesus who had to be born law to redeem those born under law,Pambazuka Elimisha Kifafa has to create awareness and transforms mindsets of people towards epilepsy. 🙏🏾
