At some point, I asked Prof. Sam K. Ongeri, “Prof, what’s the secret to staying relevant for so long?” He leaned back, smiled, and replied, “By never rushing to be popular, and never forgetting who you were before the world clapped for you.” That line hit me deeply. In a world where everyone is in a hurry to be seen, he was teaching me the art of becoming — quietly, deeply, and with patience.
I left his house that day carrying more than lessons. I carried a presence — the reminder that greatness is not always loud, and that the most powerful mentors don’t always teach by instruction, but by invitation. And in that house filled with books, stories, and the calm voice of a man who had seen much, I understood the difference between success and significance.
