NAKURU COUNTY STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP

Today Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Lake Nakuru National Park hosted Nakuru Tourism stakeholders engagement workshop at The iconic Encore Nakuru. The Park has intensified efforts to position Nakuru County as a leading leisure and conference tourism destination by engaging trade partners such as hoteliers, tour operators, the Nakuru County Tourism Association, the county Nakuru County Government among other stakeholders.

In his opening remarks the Assistant Director Lake Nakuru National Park, Mr. Immanuel Koech highligted the key objectives for the workshop as follows:
1. To showcase facilities and products that KWS has to offer
2. Enhance awareness
3. Market KWS MICE product
4. Get Stakeholders feedback to improve our services
5. Strengthen collaboration with our stakeholders

He encouraged all the stakeholders to collaborate and work together to enrich each other, a move expected to boost visitor numbers, attract investment, create jobs, and strengthen conservation financing. The Tourism Stakeholders Engagement Workshop was held under the theme, “Positioning Lake Nakuru National Park as a Premier Leisure and MICE Destination through Strategic Partnerships.” The forum brought together key players in the tourism sector to explore ways of strengthening partnerships while showcasing the park’s diverse attractions and facilities. The park wardens and managers highlighted the park’s rich wildlife diversity, experiences, attractions and opportunities with significant potential to attract both local and international visitors.

Stakeholders noted that Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism is increasingly becoming a major driver of growth within the global tourism industry. KWS has identified the segment as a strategic opportunity to increase visitation to the park, enhance conservation revenue streams, and diversify tourism offerings. The workshop also provided a platform to create awareness about the park’s tourism experiences, promote its MICE package, gather stakeholder feedback, and deepen collaboration among tourism players across Nakuru County.

Speaking during the engagement, Nakuru County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives, Hon Stephen Kuria, praised KWS and industry stakeholders for their commitment to elevating Nakuru’s profile as a premier tourism and conference destination. He observed that Lake Nakuru National Park remains one of the county’s flagship attractions and said stronger collaboration between the county government, KWS, hospitality investors, tour operators, and other industry players would unlock greater opportunities in both leisure and MICE tourism while supporting job creation and local economic growth.

Mr Kuria reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for tourism investment, supporting destination marketing initiatives, and strengthening stakeholder partnerships. He noted that Nakuru’s unique combination of world-class wildlife attractions, modern accommodation facilities, accessibility, and conference infrastructure gives it a competitive advantage as a destination where business seamlessly meets nature.

Nakuru Tourism and Marketing Board Chairperson David Mwangi said strategic partnerships remain essential in enhancing the county’s visibility as a leading tourism and conference hub. He emphasized the need for coordinated destination marketing efforts that capitalize on Lake Nakuru National Park’s unique attractions, quality hospitality facilities, and expanding conference infrastructure.

After a fruitful session, all the participants were given a free tour of Lake Nakuru National Park.
