The Ameru Foundation is a visionary, community-driven, and values-based nonprofit organisation rooted in the rich heritage of the Ameru people of Kenya.

In the Meru language, "Ameru" means "the shining ones" or "the children of the shining ones". The Inua Mama movement created to push for the empowerment of women in the country descended on Garissa County on Friday in style. Women Reps who are part of the women empowerment movement are seen dancing to Somali music blaring from powerful speakers. Women Reps Rehema Jaldesa, Anab Subow, Gladys Sholle

i and Alice Muthoni Wahome, staunch Deputy President Dr William Ruto allies, are seen dancing to the tune. Other members of the movement who are in the county are nominated senator Millicent Omanga, Nyandarua Woman Rep Faith Gitau, and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika. It is made up of Jubilee Woman Reps widely seen to be behind the 2022 presidential ambitions of DP Ruto. Political pundits see the movement as a response to the Embrace movement formed in support of the handshake between erstwhile political adversaries President Uhuru Kenyatta and veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Yesterday, we were privileged to hold Mashinani Free Medical Camps at Thau Location in Tigania West Constituency in Partnership with our executing partners, Faraja Diagnostic Mobile Clinics, LifeCare Hospital Meru, The Nairobi Women's Hospital and the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital... The 14 Day Medical Camps, 6th Edition of MFMC were officially closed at Thau MCK Church by the H. E. Linda G Kiome, Deputy Governor, County Government of Meru.

The vibrant streets of Gitimbine Market came alive as the Ameru Foundation, in collaboration with the County Government of Meru, rolled out the Mashinani Free Medical Camps. With the steadfast support of executing partners; Faraja Diagnostics Mobile Clinics, LifeCare Hospital, Nairobi Women’s Hospital, and the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH); the initiative extended a lifeline of healthcare services right to the people’s doorstep.

From the early hours of the morning, residents of Gitimbine trooped into the camp, eager to seize the rare opportunity for free and professional medical attention. By the end of the day, over 300 community members had benefitted from a wide range of services. Women received breast and cervical cancer screenings, men and women alike were tested for diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases, while families were guided on family planning options. General medical consultations gave residents clarity on concerns they had long carried silently.

For many, this was more than just a medical camp; it was a moment of hope, relief, and reassurance that their health mattered. The warm engagement between doctors, nurses, and residents turned the marketplace into a hub of healing and community bonding.

The success of The event would not have been possible without the unwavering Support of Hon. Rev. Mutuma M'Ethingia Governor Meru County and H.E Hon.Lindah Kiome Gitonga DG Deputy Governor, whose presence and support reinforced the county’s commitment to the health and well-being of its people. The Ameru Foundation and all partners expressed heartfelt gratitude for the collaborative spirit that made the edition of the Free Medical Camps an overwhelming success.

The Mashinani Free Medical Camp at Kiamwitari Assistant Chief’s Office

Today, the quiet and serene compound of Kiamwitari Assistant Chief’s Office came alive with hope, compassion, and the spirit of community care. Villagers streamed in as early as dawn, eager to take advantage of the Mashinani Free Medical Camp – an initiative designed to bring quality healthcare closer to the people.

The day began with a warm welcome from the gracious Assistant Chief, Mrs. Josephine Kangai, who stood firmly as a beacon of leadership for her community. In her opening remarks, Mrs. Kangai emphasized the importance of seeking medical services in good time instead of waiting until illnesses become severe. She passionately reminded the residents that health is the foundation of productivity, urging mothers, fathers, and young people alike to value regular checkups, preventive care, and the advice of medical professionals. Her words resonated deeply, setting the tone for a day dedicated to wellness and healing.

Also present was Mr. Paul Maingi Muriungi, the CEO of Ameru Foundation and Chairperson of Faraja Diagnostics Mobile Clinics, whose presence symbolized the strong partnership behind the Mashinani health initiative. Mr. Muriungi went beyond ceremonial greetings – he offered the community civic education on the Social Health Authority (SHA). With clarity and passion, he explained how SHA works, why every member of the public should register, and how it will benefit families by ensuring access to affordable healthcare without financial strain. He urged residents to embrace the program, pointing out that preventive health and structured coverage are the keys to reducing poverty caused by medical bills.

Yesterday the Monday 1st of September 2025, The Ameru Foundation, in collaboration with its executing partner Faraja Diagnostics Mobile Clinics, LifeCare Hospital Meru, Nairobi Women’s Hospital Meru, Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, the County Government of Meru, and with the collective support of the people of Meru, today officially launched the Mashinani Free Medical Camp at Runogone Police Station.

The initiative seeks to bring quality healthcare directly to the grassroots, bridging the gap in access to essential medical services for thousands of underserved residents in Meru County.
Speaking at the launch, Ameru Foundation CEO, Paul Opus Muriungi, emphasized the life-saving value of proactive healthcare.
“Health is the foundation of a productive society. Early diagnosis and regular health check-ups not only prevent severe illnesses but also empower families and communities to thrive. Through this camp, we are demonstrating that access to healthcare is not a privilege but a right for every Meru resident,” said Mr. Muriungi.
Her Excellency Lindah Kiome Gitonga, Deputy Governor of Meru County, applauded the collaborative spirit of the camp and urged residents to seize the opportunity for free treatment and screening.
“The Mashinani Free Medical Camp is a testimony of what partnerships can achieve for our people. I encourage all beneficiaries to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), which is already transforming millions of Kenyan lives by providing affordable and accessible healthcare for a Sustainable Primary Healthcare. Together, we can ensure no one is left behind in the journey toward universal health coverage,” she stated.
The Mashinani Free Medical Camps will continue to be rolled out in different parts of Meru County, targeting thousands of beneficiaries with free consultations, diagnostics, treatments, and health education. The program not only addresses immediate medical needs but also promotes long-term wellness, awareness, and preventive healthcare.
