The Diplomatic Service Centre to the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) hosted a farewell reception in honour of the outgoing Coordinator/Deputy Director General, Mr. Maurice O.A. Okoth, OGW, and the outgoing Deputy Coordinator/Director, Foreign Service, Ms. Sharon Konchellah, in recognition of their distinguished service and leadership.

The Centre’s multi-agency operational team, comprising officers from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs (MFDA), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Directorate of Immigration Services, paid tribute to the two leaders for their exemplary stewardship, mentorship and commitment to strengthening the Centre’s operations.

In his valedictory remarks, Mr. Okoth underscored the importance of continually strengthening Nairobi’s position as a leading global multilateral hub through efficient and responsive service delivery to UNON and the Diplomatic Corps. He also commended the professionalism, dedication and teamwork of the inter-agency staff, noting that their collective efforts have significantly enhanced the Centre’s operational effectiveness.

Ms. Konchellah thanked the team for its strong spirit of collaboration and professionalism, encouraging staff to continue fostering teamwork, mutual support and continuous learning in advancing the Centre’s mandate.

Kenya & Saudi Relations

Ambassador Saad Abdullah Alnofaia, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Kenya, today held consultations with Amb. Njambi Kinyungu, Deputy Director General for Multilateral Affairs, aimed at advancing the Kenya–Saudi Arabia strategic partnership and strengthening cooperation on shared regional and global priorities.

The African Union Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Amb. Liberata Mulamula, has called on governments and regional institutions to shift from negotiating peace agreements to delivering measurable results, saying the future of peace, security and shared prosperity in the Great Lakes Region depends on effective implementation of existing commitments.

Addressing delegates at the close of the three-day PRE-Regional Inter-Ministerial Committee (PRE-RMIC) Consultative Forum and Great Lakes Women’s Roundtable for Peace in Nairobi, Amb. Mulamula said the region possesses a comprehensive framework of peace and cooperation instruments. The priority now, she noted, is ensuring these mechanisms produce tangible improvements in the lives of communities.

“The challenge is no longer the absence of agreements,” she said. “The challenge is ensuring that the agreements already in place are effectively monitored and implemented through existing regional mechanisms.”

Her remarks reinforced the forum’s central message that translating regional commitments into concrete action is critical to reducing conflict, strengthening regional cooperation, expanding cross-border trade and accelerating sustainable development across the Great Lakes Region.

Amb. Mulamula underscored that sustainable peace requires a whole-of-society approach, calling for women, young people, parliamentarians, civil society, traditional leaders and the private sector to be fully integrated into peacebuilding and governance processes. The Deputy Director General, Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities and Chairperson of the Committee, Amb. Daniel Wambura, CBS, t chaired the 8th Preparatory Meeting for the Diplomatic Conference on the Administration and Management of Privileges and Immunities at Upper Hill 316 Chambers, Nairobi.

The meeting marked another important milestone as preparations gathered momentum towards the inaugural Diplomatic Conference on the Administration and Management of Privileges and Immunities, re-scheduled for 23rd-24th November 2026. The Conference will bring together key stakeholders to strengthen the administration and management of diplomatic privileges and immunities while advancing international cooperation and diplomatic engagement.

Kenya Reaffirms Strong Partnership with France During Bastille Day Celebrations

Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with France, with a renewed focus on youth empowerment, innovation, education and research. Speaking during the 146th French National Day (Bastille Day) celebrations at the University of Nairobi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, said the partnership continues to create opportunities for young people through scientific research, technical and vocational training, entrepreneurship and cultural exchange.

The event brought together Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Korir Sing'Oei, French Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Arnaud Suquet, members of the diplomatic corps, university leadership, innovators, entrepreneurs and students. Dr. Mudavadi said Kenya's youthful population remains central to the Government's socio-economic transformation agenda, noting that with nearly 80 per cent of Kenyans below the age of 35, investing in education, innovation and skills development is critical to unlocking the country's economic potential.

Dr. Mudavadi commended the growing collaboration between Kenya and France in advancing innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence research that supports African languages such as Kiswahili. He said the partnership demonstrates how technology can preserve cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for innovation, economic growth and job creation.

He also highlighted the outcomes of the Africa Forward Summit, co-hosted by Kenya and France in Nairobi in May, where both countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to innovation, industrialisation and investment, with young people at the centre of the partnership. He welcomed the planned Engineering and Science Complex at the University of Nairobi, jointly supported by the Governments of Kenya and France through the French Development Agency (AFD), describing it as a major investment in science, research and innovation.
French Ambassador H.E. Arnaud Suquet said Kenya and France continue to strengthen cooperation in education, research, innovation and youth engagement, adding that partnerships between French institutions and Kenyan universities are expanding opportunities for young innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs.

Dr. Mudavadi commended Ambassador Suquet for his contribution to strengthening Kenya–France relations during his tenure and reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation for shared prosperity and sustainable development. Kenya Briefs African Envoys on G7 Outcomes, Urges Unified Diplomatic Action on Global Reforms

Kenya has called for closer African coordination to advance the continent's priorities on global financial reform, digital governance and sustainable development following the 2026 G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, where President William Samoei Ruto participated as a partner-country leader representing both Kenya and Africa.

The call was made during the Africa Diplomatic Briefing, convened by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and chaired by Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Korir Sing'Oei, who updated members of the Africa Diplomatic Corps on the Summit's outcomes and outlined the next phase of Africa's engagement in key multilateral forums.

Kenya joined Brazil, India, Egypt and South Korea as invited G7 partner countries, reflecting the growing recognition of emerging economies in addressing global challenges. Discussions at the Summit focused on reforming the international financial architecture, expanding equitable climate finance, promoting responsible artificial intelligence, accelerating digital transformation, strengthening food security, advancing women's economic empowerment, protecting children online and fostering sustainable development through stronger international partnerships.

Addressing the diplomats, Dr. Sing'Oei said the Summit underscored Africa's growing influence in shaping global policy and called for sustained diplomatic coordination to ensure the continent's priorities remain at the centre of international decision-making.

"The G7 Summit reaffirmed that Africa is increasingly shaping global conversations on the defining issues of our time. Our responsibility now is to sustain that momentum through coordinated diplomacy and ensure the continent's priorities remain central to international decision-making," Dr. Sing'Oei said.

A central outcome of President Ruto's engagement with G7 leaders was his call for a new partnership between Africa and the world's advanced economies one anchored in investment, innovation, industrialisation and shared prosperity rather than traditional aid. The President argued that Africa is strengthening its institutions, deepening regional integration and positioning itself as an increasingly important driver of global economic growth.

The briefing also highlighted Africa's priorities in the rapidly evolving digital economy. President Ruto advocated for responsible and inclusive governance of artificial intelligence, stronger safeguards for children in digital spaces, greater representation of African languages and knowledge systems in emerging technologies, and expanded opportunities for African innovators, entrepreneurs, women and young people to participate meaningfully in the global digital economy.

Dr. Sing'Oei said the outcomes of the Summit should now guide Africa's engagement in upcoming multilateral processes, including the United Nations General Assembly, the G20, and follow-up initiatives under the French G7 Presidency, where the continent will continue advocating for reforms that promote a more inclusive and representative system of global governance.

Members of the Africa Diplomatic Corps welcomed Kenya's efforts to articulate Africa's shared priorities on the international stage and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening continental solidarity, deepening strategic partnerships and coordinating positions on issues of common interest.

The briefing reflected Kenya's broader foreign policy objective of positioning Africa as a constructive partner in addressing global challenges while strengthening the continent's voice in international decision-making. Officials noted that Africa's growing engagement on issues ranging from economic reform and climate action to digital governance demonstrates its emergence as an indispensable actor in shaping global solutions.
