Expanding digital connectivity alongside road infrastructure is a key component of the proposed Roads for Rural Economic Development Project (RREDP).

To advance this objective, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) convened a stakeholder engagement meeting to discuss the feasibility studies and preliminary engineering designs for the installation of fibre optic cable infrastructure along selected road corridors.

The meeting brought together KeNHA officials and Members of the National Assembly representing constituencies in the North and South Rift regions to strengthen collaboration, gather stakeholder input, and align on implementation priorities.

During the engagement, the Members of Parliament shared valuable insights on the proposed road alignments, drawing on their understanding of local communities, existing infrastructure, and regional development priorities. Their contributions will help inform the feasibility studies and guide the selection of the most suitable routes for the proposed fibre optic infrastructure.

By integrating transport and digital infrastructure, the initiative aims to improve connectivity, expand access to digital services, and promote inclusive socio-economic development across the country.

The Junction A8 (Turbo) – Junction A1 (Shikendu) (B123) Road Project continues to make steady progress, bringing communities one step closer to a safer and more efficient transport corridor.

During a site inspection, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Project Implementation Team, led by Project Engineer Eng. Dominic Kiriria, Resident Engineer Eng. Philemon Kipkoech, and Deputy Resident Engineer Eng. Victor Njiru, reviewed ongoing construction works and the overall implementation of the project.

The contractor has achieved 90% mobilization, with 3.62 km of sub-base, base, and asphalt concrete pavement completed, alongside ongoing drainage, culvert, and bridge works.

The team also assessed environmental compliance, stakeholder engagement, and land acquisition activities to ensure smooth project delivery. Once completed, the road will enhance connectivity, improve road safety, facilitate trade, and stimulate socio-economic growth for communities along the corridor.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Western Region, led by Principal Engineer Eng. Muthee Mwangi and Safety Engineer Eng. Whitney Mbeneka, concluded a two-day Road Safety Audit training in collaboration with TIMCON Associates, aimed at strengthening staff capacity in integrating road safety into the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the national trunk road network.

The training equipped participants with practical skills on conducting Road Safety Audits and reinforced key principles of the Safe System Approach, including the concept of forgiving roads and the global Vision Zero, which seeks to eliminate road traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

Special emphasis was placed on protecting vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists through safer road infrastructure and proactive safety interventions.

Through continuous capacity building and the adoption of internationally recognized road safety practices, KeNHA remains committed to developing and managing safe, resilient, and sustainable road infrastructure that protects lives, enhances mobility, and supports socio-economic development.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) conducted an ISO and Information Security Management System (ISMS) sensitization program for staff from Savory Agencies Limited and the Axle Load Enforcement Unit (ALEHU) at Minata Hotel, aimed at strengthening compliance with quality management and information security standards.

The training enhanced participants' understanding of ISO standards, information security principles, and best practices for safeguarding organizational information.

The realignment of the Nithi Bridge is a step closer to implementation following an inspection by the Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Eng. Luka Kimeli.

The inspection, which took place this weekend - ahead of granting the contractor early entry - reaffirmed the Authority commitment to delivering a lasting solution to this bridge in which there have been reported accidents.

As the project enters the final stages of the design phase, the Director General reviewed the proposed alignment and implementation plans aimed at enhancing road safety and improving traffic flow along the corridor.

Once complete, the realignment will significantly reduce the risk of accidents at Nithi Bridge while providing a safer and more efficient transport link for road users.

The Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Eng. Luka Kimeli, today inspected the Juja Weighbridge to assess its operations and the measures in place to enhance axle load compliance.

The DG, who was accompanied by Deputy Directors, Eng. Michael Ngala, (Structures) and Samwel Kumba (Communication) was briefed on the facility operations and ongoing axle load enforcement activities.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) participated in the 2nd African Journal of Engineering Research and Innovation (AJERI) Scientific Conference held at Kenyatta University, reaffirming her commitment to advancing engineering innovation, research, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Held under the theme "Engineering Innovations for Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency," the two-day conference brought together engineers, researchers, innovators, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and engineering students to explore practical solutions that promote resource efficiency and sustainable development.

The session introduced the trainees to key road safety engineering principles, highlighting the importance of integrating safety into the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the national road network.

The facilitators also guided the attachees through practical road safety concepts, common risk factors, and effective mitigation measures aimed at enhancing the safety of all road users.
