Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi

Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi The Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi represents Brazil in Burundi, Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda, as well as at the UN Environment Program and UN-Habitat.

EMBASSY OF BRAZIL IN NAIROBI

Created in 1967 (Decree 61,419 of 2/10/67) and established in the Kenyan capital the following year, the Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi represents the interests of Brazil to Kenya, in several areas of international relations. Besides, since Brazil does not yet have embassies in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Somalia, the mission extends Brazil's relations to those countries. In parallel, the Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi represents Brazil to the regional and international organizations present in the five countries under its jurisdiction, in particular agencies and programs of the United Nations, such as UNEP (Environment) and UN-Habitat (Human Settlements) both based in the Kenyan capital. In the absence of Consulate General of Brazil in the region, the functions of consular representation to Brazilian individuals (citizens and companies) in these countries are also executed by the Embassy in Nairobi, through its Consular Section. Foreigners traveling to Brazil or with interests in our country are also attended by the Embassy's Consular Section. To learn more about the Embassy and its mission, visit:

🌍 World Portuguese Language Day – 5 May

Celebrated each year on 5 May, World Portuguese Language Day honours a language that connects more than 260 million people across multiple continents, serving as a powerful vehicle of culture, identity, and dialogue.

Spoken in countries across Africa, South America, Europe, and Asia, Portuguese reflects a rich tapestry of histories and influences. It is a language shaped by encounters, creativity, and resilience, continuously evolving while preserving deep cultural roots.

📚 In 2026, this celebration is further enriched by significant literary milestones:
✨ 70 years of Grande Sertão: Veredas
✨ 80 years of Sagarana

These works by João Guimarães Rosa, renowned writer and diplomat, stand among the most influential in Brazilian literature. Through innovative language and narrative, he contributed in a unique way to the recognition, recording, and global dissemination of the Brazilian variant of Portuguese.

As we mark this day, we celebrate not only a language, but a shared space of expression that fosters cooperation, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding among Lusophone communities worldwide.
