Not all heroes wear capes, some wear green coats, muddy boots and carry heavy ropes through rushing water.

Just look at this scene. It's not glamorous. The water is murky, the rocks are sharp, the terrain is tough and you can just feel the tension in that rope and the raw, powerful struggle of that beautiful Rhino in the water.

This is the reality. While the rest of the world might only see majestic wildlife in documentaries or on a Safari, these guys are right there in the trenches literally. Their work often out of the spotlight, but seeing it captured like this just makes you feel such a deep sense of gratitude.

Asanteni sana Our Rangers, your courage gives our wildlife a future.

I have a long tail, strong claws and a forked tongue that helps me pick up scent molecules and track down prey.

I may look calm, but I can move pretty fast when I need to! ๐Ÿ‘€

BIODIVERSITY: OUR LIVING INFRASTRUCTURE

At the 1st Kenya Grape Industry Exchange Conference at SAJOREC, JKUAT, KWS DG Prof. Erustus Kanga emphasized that biodiversity is living infrastructure. Healthy landscapes store water, moderate climate risks, and sustain wildlife, tourism, and livelihoods. With H.E. Guo Haiyan, Ambassador of China to Kenya, present, the event highlighted science and international cooperation.

Prof. Kanga called for a whole-landscape approach linking conservation, agriculture, research, investment, and community needs. He stressed that research should go beyond publications to practical solutionsโ€”supporting farmers, guiding land-use planning, and strengthening wildlife corridors, water management, restoration, and early warning systems.

Conservation and economic development are complementary and mutually reinforcing. KWS supports science-based partnerships that turn knowledge into action and deliver community benefits through safer livelihoods and opportunities.

In October 2024, KWS translocated 54 elephants from Mwea National Reserve to Aberdare National Park, giving these jumbos a new home while helping mitigate human-wildlife conflict.

Elephant translocations play an important role in creating safer spaces for both wildlife and communities. By moving elephants from high-conflict areas to suitable habitats, we protect livelihoods, promote peaceful coexistence and give these majestic giants room to thrive.
