STATUTORY FUNCTIONS

13 (1) The Commission shall have all powers generally necessary for the ex*****on of its functions under the Constitution, this Act, and any other written law. (2) Without prejudice to the generality of subsection (1), the Commission shall have the power to –

Educate and create awareness on any matter within the Commission’s mandate;

Undertake preventive measures against unethical and corrupt practices;
Conduct investigations on its own initiative or on a complaint made by any person, and, Conduct mediation, conciliation and negotiation.

𝗡𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗞 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗩𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a surveyor based in Narok County over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The suspect, Joan Achieng Odumbe, is alleged to have demanded Kes100,000 from a complainant to facilitate the identification of beacons between two parcels of land at Nairagie Enkare Sub-County, Narok County.

Following preliminary investigations, the Commission mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect at the Narok County offices while receiving Kes50,000/-.

She was escorted to the South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and statement recording.

EACC remains committed to tackling bribery and other forms of corruption at service delivery points and enhancing the quality of public services for all citizens.

𝗧𝗪𝗢 𝗗𝗖𝗜 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗬

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kipkelion Sub-County Offices over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The suspects, Corporal Wesley Korir and Corporal Christopher Maina, allegedly demanded Kes500,000 from a complainant in exchange for terminating a murder case against him.

Following preliminary investigations, the Commission mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspects earlier today while receiving Kes120,000.

The suspect was processed at South Rift Regional Office and later released on a cash bail of Kes30,000 pending completion of investigations.

EACC reiterates its commitment to combating corruption in all sectors and urges members of the public to continue reporting bribery and other corrupt conduct through the Commission’s official reporting channels.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two court staff in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate incidents of soliciting and receiving bribes in connection with court services.

In Eldoret, EACC arrested a Court Assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The suspect, Ms. Linet Okungu, was arrested on September 8, 2026, after allegedly receiving Kes20,000. The money was part of a bribe sought to facilitate the issuance of a stay order stopping the auction of a parcel of land in a matter pending before the court.

The arrest followed a complaint by a court user who alleged that a Magistrate had demanded Kes50,000 to secure the stay order.

The suspect was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a cash bail of Ksh20,000 pending completion of investigations.

In a separate incident in Nakuru, EACC arrested a court process server attached to the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe to allocate a convenient mention date for a complainant’s case.

The suspect, Mr. Benard Ngeno, was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and was later released on a cash bail of Kes5,000 pending completion of investigations.

The arrests underscore the Commission’s commitment to tackling bribery and other forms of corruption at service delivery points and enhancing the quality of public services for all citizens.

𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗖, 𝗜𝗦𝗞 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗨𝗣 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗥

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) are strengthening collaboration to promote integrity and tackle corruption in the land and real estate sector.

The two institutions today held a consultative meeting to discuss areas of joint action, including corruption prevention, ethics promotion, capacity building, information sharing and public awareness.

They also explored the development of a structured framework to guide their partnership and support coordinated efforts to strengthen accountability and good governance.

EACC and ISK reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address integrity challenges facing the surveying profession and the wider land and real estate sector.

The engagement is part of EACC’s wider efforts to partner with professional bodies and public institutions in preventing corruption and promoting ethical practices across the country.

Tume ya Maadili na Kupambana na Ufisadi (EACC) imewakamata maafisa wanne wa umma katika operesheni tofauti katika 𝗸𝗮𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶 𝘇𝗮 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗺𝗮,kwa madai ya kuitisha na kupokea hongo kutoka kwa wananchi.

Waliokamatwa ni maafisa wawili wa usalama wa Kampuni ya Kenya Power mjini Diani, Kaunti ya Kwale, na maafisa wawili wa Uzingatiaji wa Sheria na Utekelezaji wa Kanuni katika Serikali ya Kaunti ya Bungoma, mjini Kimilili.

𝗛𝘂𝗸𝗼 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗲, maafisa wa EACC kutoka Ofisi ya Kanda ya Pwani ya Chini, Mombasa, waliwakamata maafisa hao wa Kenya Power Joseph Dena na Fredrick Odhiambo baada ya kudaiwa kuitisha hongo ya Sh100,000 kutoka kwa mlalamishi.

Maafisa hao wanadaiwa kumshutumu mlalamishi kwa kutumia umeme kinyume cha sheria na kumtaka awape fedha hizo ili wamsaidie kuachiliwa na kuhakikisha kuwa hachukuliwi hatua za kisheria.

Baada ya kupokea malalamishi hayo, Tume iliendesha operesheni iliyosababisha kukamatwa kwa washukiwa hao walipokuwa wakipokea Sh50,000.

Walifikishwa katika Kituo Kikuu cha Polisi cha Mombasa kuandisha taarifa na baadaye wakaachiliwa kwa dhamana ya pesa taslimu ya Sh20,000 kila mmoja, huku uchunguzi ukiendelea.

𝗛𝘂𝗸𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗺𝗮, Tume iliwakamata askari wa Serikali ya Kaunti, Victoria Mala Nafula na Elizabeth Nafuna Lukhale, baada ya kudaiwa kuitisha na kupokea hongo kutoka kwa mhudumu wa cyber café katika Manispaa ya Kimilili.

Maafisa hao wanadaiwa kumtaka mfanyibiashara huyo awape fedha hizo ili amruhusu kuendelea kuendesha biashara yake bila leseni. Pia wanadaiwa kumtishia kufunga biashara hiyo iwapo hangewapa hongo hiyo.

Baada ya uchunguzi wa awali, EACC iliendesha operesheni na kuwakamata maafisa hao walipokuwa wakipokea pesa kutoka kwa mlalamishi.

Washukiwa hao walipelekwa katika Ofisi ya EACC, Kanda ya Magharibi mjini Bungoma kuandikisha taarifa, na baadaye wakapelekwa katika Kituo cha Polisi cha Bungoma, ambako walilala usiku mmoja. Waliachiliwa asubuhi kwa dhamana ya pesa taslimu ya Sh20,000 kila mmoja huku uchunguzi ukiendelea.

Kukamatwa kwa maafisa hao kunajiri wakati Tume inaongeza juhudi za kukabiliana na hongo na aina nyingine za ufisadi katika vituo vya utoaji wa huduma, ambako wananchi hukutana moja kwa moja na maafisa wa umma.

𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗛𝗨𝗡 𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗦

Religious leaders have been urged to reject and refrain from legitimizing illicit funds ahead of the 2027 General Election, amid concerns that dirty money could distort voters’ choices and fuel corruption in government.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairperson Dr. David Oginde warned that politicians who finance campaigns using proceeds of corruption, money laundering and unexplained wealth could later be pressured to reward their financiers through inflated tenders, manipulated procurement and other corrupt deals.

“There is no way we are going to build a society of integrity if we are beneficiaries of illicit resources,” Dr. Oginde said.

He was speaking at the National Stakeholders’ Convention at Ufungamano House, Nairobi, where he addressed delegates on “Corruption and Politics in Kenya: How Illicit Money Drives Democracy and Viable Mitigations.”

Dr. Oginde said election campaigns should be driven by leadership, values and principles rather than candidates’ financial muscle. He cautioned that illicit wealth gives wealthy candidates an unfair advantage and distorts voters’ ability to choose leaders based on merit.

The convention, organized by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), is bringing together more than 150 stakeholders to promote credible, peaceful and democratic elections.

The forum is also developing strategies to safeguard the 2027 electoral cycle and strengthen the role of stakeholders in promoting electoral integrity.

𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗞𝗢𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗬 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗘𝗙 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗔𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗖 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦

Former Machakos County Government Chief Officer Joseph Mutwiwa Munyao has been charged with allegedly using forged academic certificates to secure employment in the county government.

Munyao was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on August 31, 2026, and arraigned at the Machakos Law Courts this morning. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court released him on a cash bail of Kes1 million or an alternative bond of Kes2 million with a surety of a similar amount.

EACC investigations revealed that Munyao allegedly forged a Bachelor of Commerce degree certificate (Accounting Option), purportedly issued by the University of Nairobi in 2004, and a Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Final Examination Certificate dated June 2019.

The Commission further established that he used the certificates to secure appointment as Chief Officer, Industry and Innovation, a position he held from January to November 2023. During this period, he earned salaries totaling Kes1,585,967.90.

Upon completing its investigations, EACC forwarded the inquiry file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property, uttering a false document and forgery of academic certificates.

EACC will also institute civil proceedings to recover the salaries and other benefits allegedly obtained through the use of the fraudulent academic qualifications.
