The Ministry of Health is finalising its FY 2027/28 Budget and the 2027/28–2029/30 Medium-Term Budget during a Sector Retreat in Mombasa.

The retreat brings together directorates from the Ministry’s two State Departments and semi-autonomous agencies to align resources with national health priorities, measurable outcomes and high-impact interventions, while strengthening efficiency and accountability.

Priority areas include quality medical services, Universal Health Coverage, primary and community healthcare, health infrastructure and equipment, and human resources for health.

The budget will also support disease prevention and control, immunisation, health security, laboratory services, quality assurance and professional standards.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki chaired the 15th Development Partnership Forum, bringing together the National Government, Council of Governors, development partners and other stakeholders to advance Kenya’s development priorities.

Co-chaired by UN Resident Coordinator Dr Garry Conille and German Ambassador Sebastian Groth, the forum reviewed Kenya’s economic outlook, the absorption of Official Development Assistance, and measures to strengthen youth empowerment, employment, entrepreneurship and skills development.

Discussions also assessed the performance of Joint Sector Working Groups and explored opportunities to enhance coordination and align development support with national priorities.

Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga accompanied H.E. Mama Rachel Ruto, EGH, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, on a visit to Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, Morocco, to engage with Kenyan children receiving cochlear implants, their families and medical professionals supporting the programme.

Supported by the Princess Lalla Asmaa Foundation, the programme is helping children with hearing impairment regain their hearing and connect more fully with their families and surroundings.

Dr Oluga reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening the specialised skills and expertise gained through the Kenya–Morocco medical exchange to expand cochlear implantation services and reach more children across the country.

The programme forms part of the wider Kenya–Morocco health cooperation aimed at building specialised medical capacity and increasing access to life-changing care.

Also present was Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Richard Lesiyampe.

The Ministry of Health has reviewed progress in implementing the national tuberculosis programme, with a focus on strengthening early detection, treatment and care.

The quarterly review meeting brought together Director of Primary Health Care Dr Joel Gondi, Director of Human Resources Mr Robert Tonui, Deputy Director of Medical Services Dr Nobert Abuya and the Division of Tuberculosis and Other Lung Diseases.

Discussions focused on addressing workforce and operational gaps, supporting health workers and accelerating efforts to identify undiagnosed TB cases and link patients to timely treatment.

Health CS Aden Duale led the Kenya delegation at the 70th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Austria. Joined 181 nations at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) to advance global dialogue on the peaceful, transformative application of nuclear technology.

As Kenya aggressively modernizes its healthcare infrastructure, our focus remains clear: leveraging nuclear science to combat lifestyle diseases, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and save lives. At the conference, we engaged on integrating nuclear solutions into our national health strategy—particularly in radiation medicine and radiotherapy, key pillars in our fight against cancer.

This conference is a strategic platform for Kenya to advocate for enhanced international support in decentralizing high-end medical imaging and therapeutic services. By aligning with global nuclear frameworks, we aim to bridge diagnostic gaps and ensure timely, life-saving treatments for patients across Kenya and the region.

The Ministry of Health is strengthening collaboration with UNICEF to improve nutrition outcomes and protect children and other vulnerable groups.

Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni held discussions with UNICEF Interim Chief of Nutrition Dr. Vandana Joshi on accelerating the National Nutrition and Dietetics Policy, strengthening nutrition messaging and services through Community Health Promoters, and sustaining access to essential nutrition commodities.

The discussions also focused on emergency preparedness, treatment of acute malnutrition, WASH interventions and continuity of nutrition services during the anticipated El Niño rains.

PS Muthoni acknowledged UNICEF’s continued support and the contribution of outgoing Chief of Nutrition Dr. Ismael Teta. She also called for UNICEF’s collaboration in the Nutrition Side Event during KEPHIC 2026, taking place from 27–29 October 2026.

The Ministry of Health today held strategic discussions with the Kenya Healthcare Federation on positioning the Kenya Public Health International Conference (KEPHIC) 2026 as a national platform for public-private partnerships in the pharmaceutical sector.

The engagement explored local pharmaceutical manufacturing, technology transfer, regional market access, resilient supply chains and the integration of pharmaceutical services into primary healthcare.

Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni highlighted efforts to safeguard the quality and safety of medicines, including the Track and Trace System being implemented by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in collaboration with the Digital Health Authority.

Kenya Healthcare Federation CEO Dr Anne Musuva pledged the industry’s support in advancing Universal Health Coverage through access to safe, quality and affordable health products and technologies.

KEPHIC 2026 will take place from 27–29 October 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
