The Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor,EGH, today, participated in the 26th Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Legal and Judicial Affairs of the East African Community (EAC), held at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

Chaired by the Attorney General of the United Republic of Tanzania, the meeting brought together Attorneys General and Ministers responsible for Justice from EAC Partner States to deliberate on key legal and judicial matters critical to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the EAC integration agenda.

The Sectoral Council provided an important forum for Partner States to exchange perspectives, address shared legal and judicial priorities and explore ways of enhancing cooperation in the administration of justice across the region.

The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated legal and judicial frameworks in supporting deeper regional integration, strengthening access to justice and facilitating closer cooperation among EAC Partner States.

The Attorney General was accompanied by the Deputy Solicitor General, Ms. Njeri Wachira, and Mr. Allan Githaiga, Deputy Chief State Counsel.

Kenya remains committed to working with EAC Partner States in strengthening legal and judicial cooperation and advancing a more integrated East African Community.

As Kenya marks 16 years since the promulgation of the Constitution, the Katiba Day Symposium provides an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come and what more must be done to realize the constitutional promise.

Speaking during Session I on the State of Accountability by Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices,the Attorney General Hon. Dorcas Oduor,EGH, emphasized that while constitutional institutions are independent, they are not isolated.

She underscored the need for independence and interdependence to coexist, with institutions working within their distinct mandates while collaborating to advance one constitutional mission: protecting the public interest and serving the people of Kenya.

The Attorney General called for stronger institutions, greater accountability, transparency, professionalism and effective cooperation, noting that the true test of the Constitution is not only the strength of its text, but whether its promise is experienced as a lived reality by every Kenyan.

The Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, today joined the 30th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC), chaired by the Deputy President H.E Kithure Kindiki.

The session brought together representatives of the National and County Governments, alongside Heads of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices, to deliberate on key economic and fiscal priorities, including County Aggregation and Industrial Parks, harmonisation of county licensing frameworks, and preparedness for emerging food security and weather-related challenges.

The engagement underscored the importance of coordinated action between the two levels of government in advancing Kenya’s development agenda and strengthening service delivery.

The Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, joined other Ministers from the East African Community (EAC) Partner States for the Dedicated Meeting of the Council of Ministers in Mombasa, Kenya.

The four-day meeting, held from 18–21 August 2026, provided an opportunity for Partner States to address critical institutional matters requiring urgent action to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the Community.

Among the key matters before the Council were the recruitment of priority staff for EAC Organs and Institutions, consideration of validated job descriptions under the new EAC structure, implementation of the EAC quota system and strengthening of institutional reporting and accountability.

The Council also considered the appointment of the Executive Director of the East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (EAC-CASSOA), alongside matters concerning the Lake Victoria Basin Commission’s Integrated Water Resources Management Programme.

The meeting underscores the commitment of EAC Partner States to strengthening regional institutions, enhancing efficiency and advancing the objectives of regional integration for the benefit of the people of East Africa.

The Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, and the Solicitor General, Hon. Shadrack J. Mose, CBS, today attended the inaugural Kenya Health Summit 2026 held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.

The two-day Summit, running from 18–19 August 2026 under the theme “Reforms Delivered, Health as a Right,” brings together national and county governments, healthcare professionals, development partners, innovators and other stakeholders to take stock of Kenya’s health sector reforms and chart the way forward towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The Summit was officially opened by His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto, who presided over the opening session and highlighted the Government’s ongoing efforts to transform healthcare delivery, including digital health and reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and access to quality healthcare.

Key areas of focus during the Summit include health financing through the Social Health Authority (SHA), primary healthcare, digital health transformation, specialised medical services, availability of medicines and health products, maternal and newborn health, and strengthening the healthcare workforce.

The participation of the Attorney General and Solicitor General underscores the importance of a strong legal and policy framework in supporting the implementation of health sector reforms and advancing the constitutional right to the highest attainable standard of health.

The Kenya Health Summit provides an important platform for stakeholders to reflect on progress made, address emerging challenges and strengthen collaboration towards a more accessible, equitable and sustainable healthcare system for all Kenyans.

The Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, and the Solicitor General, Hon. Shadrack J. Mose, CBS, today joined H.E. President William Samoei Ruto and Kenyans from different sectors for the National Conversation on Kenya’s Transformation Agenda Beyond 2030 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.

The forum marks the beginning of a broad national reflection on the Kenya the country seeks to build in the years ahead, bringing together diverse perspectives on development, governance, social wellbeing and economic opportunity.

The engagement provides an avenue for citizens and stakeholders to share their views on the country’s long-term priorities and contribute to a development framework that reflects the aspirations of present and future generations.

The dialogue also highlights the importance of building on the gains made under Vision 2030 while charting a new course that responds to emerging national needs and opportunities.

Strengthening legal expertise to better safeguard Kenya's interests.

Today, the Office of the Attorney General successfully concluded a five-day intensive training programme on International Business Transactions: Negotiation and Drafting for State Counsel, held in Nairobi from 3rd to 7th August 2026. The programme brought together legal officers for a practical and immersive learning experience aimed at enhancing their capacity to negotiate, draft and manage complex international commercial transactions on behalf of the Government.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in interactive sessions, practical negotiation simulations and discussions facilitated by a distinguished team of local and international legal experts. The training covered a broad range of topics, including international negotiations, loan and supply agreements, contract drafting, public procurement, cross-cultural negotiations, arbitration and dispute resolution, local content, stabilization clauses, and the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in international legal practice.

The programme culminated in a certificate award ceremony, recognizing the participants' successful completion of the course and reaffirming the Office's commitment to continuous professional development. By investing in the capacity of its legal officers, the Office of the Attorney General continues to strengthen its ability to provide quality legal services and effectively represent and protect Kenya's interests in an increasingly complex global legal and commercial landscape.

Today, the Office of the Attorney General, together with the Legal Resources Foundation (LRF) Trust, convened a Breakfast Meeting on the Women in Leadership Programme at the Nairobi Serena Hotel.

The engagement marked the commencement of a baseline survey aimed at strengthening women's leadership through mentorship, institutional learning and evidence-based programme design.

The event brought together staff from the Office of the Attorney General and the State Department for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs KE , who shared experiences, discussed workplace dynamics, identified mentorship opportunities for upcoming officers, and contributed insights that will inform the programme's implementation.

The Office of the Attorney General remains committed to fostering inclusive leadership, nurturing talent, and creating a workplace where women are empowered to lead and excel.

Access to justice received a major boost today as the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs KE , Hon. Judith Pareno, officially launched the National Legal Aid Centre in Murang'a County on behalf of the Hon. Attorney General.

The Deputy Solicitor General, Jacqueline Muhindi, represented the Solicitor General and delivered his speech, reaffirming the Government's commitment to expanding legal aid services and ensuring that every Kenyan can access justice regardless of their social or economic status.

The event brought together NLAS Chairperson William Musyoki, Acting CEO Freshia Gathumbi, Registrar of Marriages James Nduna, George Nyakundi, Head of the Advocates Complaints Commission, representatives from the Witness Protection Agency, the State Department for Children Affairs, Murang'a County Commissioner Hassan Ali, Del Monte Kenya, Sheria na Haki, and other justice sector stakeholders.

The launch, sponsored by Del Monte Kenya, marks another milestone in strengthening partnerships that promote access to justice and legal empowerment at the grassroots.

The Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, and the Solicitor General, Hon. Shadrack Mose, CBS, today hosted the Swiss Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Mirko Giulietti, for a courtesy call.

The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between Kenya and Switzerland, with discussions focusing on continued cooperation in the justice sector and support for electoral processes. Also present were the senior leadership of the Office of the Attorney General.
