The first cohort of the program, consisting of children aged between eight and twelve, began classes on April 25, 2026.

The High Commission extends its gratitude to the parents who enrolled their children in this program, and especially thanks Sr. Caritas Mukamukiga and Marie Claire Karikwera for volunteering to teach the children.

Today, the High Commission of Rwanda to Kenya in collaboration with the PLO Lumumba Foundation , the Pan African Institute, Lukenya University , and the University of Nairobi (UoN) hosted a symposium on genocide prevention at The UoN.

The symposium brought together more than 400 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations, members of the academia, researchers, students from various universities, and members of the Rwandan community.

It featured a panel discussion that underscored the importance of historical memory, justice, and global solidarity in the prevention of genocide and other atrocities.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Ernest Rwamucyo said that genocide denial and revisionism are not merely distortions of historical truth, but dangerous tools that can enable future violence.

He added that when facts are manipulated or erased, when perpetrators are shielded and victims are forgotten, the foundations are laid for repetition.

Representing the Government of Kenya at in Nairobi, Amb. Dennis Mburu, Director General of the Africa Directorate at Kenya's Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, reaffirmed Kenya’s solidarity with the Government and People of Rwanda and saluted the resilience and courage of survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

He also hailed Rwanda's home-grown solutions employed in the country's rebuilding journey, such as Gacaca courts.

"With a shattered society and a justice system that had been decimated, Rwanda did not simply look to external models for answers. Instead, it reached into its own cultural heritage and reimagined justice for an unprecedented challenge," he said.

He added that Kenya is proud to stand beside Rwanda not only as a neighbour but also as a partner in the East African Community, and as a fellow nation committed to the belief that the dignity of every human life is non-negotiable.
