H.E. President William Samoei Ruto participated in the Oslo Forum 2026 High Level Public Event, in a panel discussion alongside Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, Special Adviser to President Trump, Boulos and Comfort Ero, Head og ICG. Issues addressed were the evolving global security landscape and the effectiveness of the UN Security Council. The discussions highlighted the gap between the Council’s continued central role and a structure that no longer reflects today’s global realities.

Particular attention was given to Africa’s role in global peace and security, noting that the continent remains without permanent representation despite frequently being on the Council’s agenda. The importance of reform was underscored as essential for the Council’s effectiveness, legitimacy and relevance, as well as for strengthening multilateral cooperation on peacebuilding and conflict prevention.🇺🇳🇰🇪🇳🇴

On the occasion of President William Samoei Ruto’s visit to Norway, our President Andreas Enger had the privilege of hosting a discussion on maritime cooperation between Norway and Kenya. 🚢🌊🐳🐟

In addition to the distinguished delegation from Kenya, the Norwegian government was represented with State Secretaries Astrid Bergmål and Even Tronstad Sagebakken.

The discussions touched on the many challenges facing maritime actors today, including geopolitical rivalries, energy security and maritime security. The participants also discussed a range of opportunities, not least in the development of skilled Kenyan seafarers.

To this end, CEO Håkon Lenz of Wilhelmsen Ship Management, EVP Helge Drange of BW LNG and Head of Crewing Per Semer-Olsen of BW Epic Kosan spoke about their excellent experience with, and high ambitions for, the employment of Kenyan nationals.

As a testament to the quality of Kenyan seafarers, Kenyan national and seafarer Ms. Fatma Shakur was present at the event. Ms. Shakur graduated from the top of her class at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and now works as a technical superintendent for BW LNG.

As said by EVP Drange, Ms. Shakur is entrusted to take care of a vessel worth 200 million USD, and they are fully confident that Kenyan seafarers such as Ms. Shakur are up to the task.

The embassy have visited BBS Mall in Eastleigh. Witnessing firsthand how the mall and investments. has transformed the district and had a positive impact on the community. This truly is a vibrant part of Nairobi.

We tremendously enjoyed visiting not only East Africa’s largest mall but also a mall frequented by my countrymen. The mall has an important function for Norwegians in Kenya and Somalia. Truly grateful for the warm reception by Ysusuf Hassan and CEO.🇰🇪🇳🇴🇸🇴
