Yesterday, we were honoured to welcome the Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, to the Kenya School of Law for a tour of our new Ultra-Modern Library and Moot Courts. The visit offered an opportunity to showcase a facility that represents more than just a new building. It is an investment in the learning, research and practical skills that are at the heart of professional legal education.
The Ultra-Modern Library provides a modern and welcoming environment where students can read, research, learn digitally, exchange ideas and work collaboratively. The facility includes a main reading area, an Electronic Resource Centre, private reading carrels, discussion rooms and two moot courts, creating spaces where students can move from learning the law to putting that knowledge into practice.
This development comes at an important time for legal education in Kenya. Technology is changing the way law is researched, taught and practised, while the legal profession continues to evolve. KSL’s Ultra Modern Library is therefore designed to support not only academic learning, but also the practical and professional development of lawyers and other actors in the justice sector.
The Library remains central to KSL’s mandate of providing professional legal training, research and related services. The School’s statutory mandate covers advocates’ training, paralegal training, continuing professional development, research and consultancy. The new facility strengthens this mandate by giving learners and authorised users an environment equipped for the demands of modern legal education and practice.
KSL’s vision is to be “a centre of excellence in professional legal training, research and consultancy.” The Ultra-Modern Library and Moot Courts are a significant step towards that vision.
The Attorney General was accompanied by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Judith Pareno. The KSL leadership was led by the Board Chairperson, Prof. Mary Otieno and the Ag. Director/CEO, Mr. Isaac Kuloba. It was a proud moment for the School and a glimpse into the future of legal education, research and advocacy in Kenya.
