Young people were urged to make informed and responsible health decisions during the International Condom Day 2026 commemoration held at Technical University of Mombasa.
Deputy County Commissioner Robinson Gakuru emphasised the role of awareness and prevention, stating: “Young people must be equipped with the right information and services to protect their health, realise their potential, and make responsible choices.” He noted that youth continue to face heightened risks of HIV infection, unintended pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence.
National Syndemic Diseases Control Council Chairman Hon. Ibrahim Abass warned that infections remain high among youth, saying: “Seventy-eight percent of new HIV infections are among young people aged 15 to 34, underscoring the urgent need for stronger youth-led prevention efforts.”
The commemoration, held under the theme “Safer Is Sexy — Wrap It Up,” reinforced the importance of correct and consistent condom use, public education, and youth leadership in protecting health and future opportunities.

The County Government of Turkana in partnership with UNICEF Kenya and the Korea International Cooperation Agency, have today celebrated the certification of seven villages in Loruth, Kaikor/Kaaleng Ward, Kibish Sub-County as Open Defecation Free.

The certified villages — Akoros, Natomean, Emunyen A, Emunyen B, Kotome, RukRuk, and Alidat — are part of the Ilemkajokon Community Unit and comprise 354 households with 1,503 residents, including 207 children under five.
VIVA Africa we shall continue to forge partnerships and collaborations with county governments, the state and non-state actors to ensure we completely root out Open Defecation in Africa.

As part of our ongoing commitment to celebrate and support Maternal and Child Health Month, VIVA Africa the Rotary Club of Nairobi-Connect, in partnership with Rotary Club Of Muthaiga, Nairobi Utumishi Rotary Club and Rotary Club of Ridgeways, held a heartfelt courtesy visit to Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

With the generous support of M-Pesa Foundation, we had the joy of distributing to new mothers, small but meaningful gestures that offer comfort, dignity, and care during one of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Pumwani Maternity Hospital carries a heavy load, handling thousands of deliveries each year under constrained circumstances.

Infrastructural gaps significantly affect the quality of care available to mothers and newborns, highlighting a clear and urgent need for continued support.

In response, Rotary International District 9212 launched the campaign, an innovative and accessible way for people to give directly to this cause.

By simply dialing *126*11 #, anyone can contribute and make a real impact.

The Rotary Club of Nairobi-Connect, alongside other clubs, has taken an active role in championing this initiative, mobilizing support and ensuring that the funds raised are directed toward impactful, on-the-ground needs at Pumwani.

Our visit to the mothers and hospital management wasn’t just about giving, it was about listening.

We sought to:
✨Understand if Bonga na Rotary has made a real difference
✨Identify remaining or emerging needs
✨Explore how we can deepen and sustain our collective impact

Rotary International President (2024/25), Stephanie Urchick, visited Kenya recently.

During her stay, she toured Pumwani Maternity Hospital and commissioned a transformative project in the labour and neonatal ward.

Hundreds of residents in Trans Nzoia County turned up for three free medical camps organized by leading healthcare providers including Precise Healthcare Nairobi, St. Luke’s Orthopaedic & Trauma Eldoret, Kitale Hospital, Equity Afya, and Moi University.

The initiative offered diagnosis and treatment for various ailments, ensuring that vulnerable communities had access to essential healthcare services.

The Ministry of Health has launched a national Measles Rubella vaccination campaign and introduced the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) into the routine immunization programme.

The campaign runs from 5th to 14th July 2025. The Rubella & vaccines are safe and eﬀective.

The Measles Rubella vaccine will be administered to children aged 9 to 59 months, while the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine will be given to children aged 9 months to 14 years.

The vaccines are safe and available in all health facilities and vaccination posts at no cost.
