🌍 Orange the World! ♀️
From 25 November to 10 December, we highlight initiatives to raise awareness and take action to end violence against women. Under the slogan "UNITE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls", the focus is on violence prevention measures.
Violence against women and girls affects us all: it is a problem for the whole of society, occurring in all regions of the world, offline and online as well as across all social strata. On a national and international level, Austria consistently advocates for the right of women and girls to a life free from violence and thus actively supports the UN "Orange the World" campaign.
➡️ Let's stop violence before it starts!

• Austria is actively campaigning for the rights of women and girls at an international level, particularly as part of its membership of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

• Austria is celebrating 10 years Istanbul Convention this year! Since its ratification on 14 November 2013, Austria has been tirelessly fighting to end all forms of violence against women with this internationally binding instrument. Furthermore, Austria is fully committed to advance the ratification of the Istanbul Convention in as many countries as possible. This year, the EU joined the Istanbul Convention, making the protection of women a top priority at a pan-European level!

• Austrian development cooperation promotes projects for the protection and empowerment of women and girls worldwide. For example, Austria is involved in initiatives to combat female ge***al mutilation and child marriage in the countries of the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. Austria places particular emphasis on cooperation with local and international NGOs, as this is the only way to achieve sustainable and full social empowerment of women.

• All humanitarian projects financed by Austria contribute to the promotion of gender equality!

• Strengthening women's rights is a constant of Austrian cultural diplomacy, for instance by supporting Austrian artists and scientists in projects on the topic of violence against women and girls.

Just close to our Embassy is the amazing social project “The Nest” located. Today, August 29th, we had the chance to visit it and get a deeper understanding of the importance of their work.
Have you ever thought about what happens to a child if its mother has to go to prison? Since 1997 “The Nest” rescues these children and improves their living conditions while the mother is in jail. Later, they help to rehabilitate and reintegrate them and their released mothers. As the Austrian Embassy we hope for a continuing good cooperation with Irene Baumgartner and her team and wish “The Nest” a fruitful future.
