Today, the Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority joined the regional leaders and technical experts in the Ministerial Meeting on the Single Customs Territory (SCT) held in Kigali, Rwanda, bringing together Ministries responsible for the SCT from Northern Corridor Integration Projects member states.

The meeting reviewed the status of implementation of the 14th Heads of State Summit Directives of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIPs) Partner States under the SCT Cluster.

The meeting reaffirmed the Partner States’ shared commitment to deepening regional integration, enhancing trade facilitation, and advancing the seamless movement of goods and services along the Northern Corridor through effective implementation of the Single Customs Territory framework

The launch of Nyali Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station and the flag-off of the Mombasa-Nairobi EV Parade mark another bold step toward a cleaner and smarter transport future for the region.

As the backbone of regional trade and connectivity, the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority continues to champion sustainable transport solutions across its 13,000 km multimodal network that links the Port of Mombasa to the Great Lakes Region. Every day, the Corridor facilitates the movement of nearly 75,000 tons of freight, reinforcing its critical role in driving economic growth while advancing climate-conscious transport systems.

Through the Green Freight Strategy 2030, the Northern Corridor is accelerating efforts to reduce freight emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and build resilient transport infrastructure for the future. With ongoing initiatives such as the Electrification Readiness Study, eco-driving and fleet management trainings, and support for electric freight transport infrastructure, the Corridor is steadily positioning itself as a leader in green mobility in Africa.

The Nyali EV Charging Station represents more than infrastructure; it symbolizes the region’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a net-zero emission Corridor by 2050.

Representatives from Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority Member States convened in Mombasa for a Planning Committee Meeting focused on the Presentation of Country Priorities for the FY 2026/2027.

This meeting provides a strategic platform to discuss recommendations emerging from in-country stakeholders’ consultative meetings and to validate the final activities to be implemented in Northern Corridor Member states.

This collaborative process strengthens regional coordination, ensures country priorities are aligned with shared development goals, and promotes evidence-based planning across Member States.

The Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority is convening in-country stakeholders’ consultative meetings across all six Member States this week.

These sessions are centered on presenting progress made in implementing FY2025/2026 activities, while also creating space for strategic dialogue on national priority interventions for FY2026/2027.

Stakeholders are actively reviewing, refining, and aligning proposed activities to ensure they respond to evolving corridor needs.

The meetings also provide a platform to surface and address emerging issues affecting the Northern Corridor, reinforcing a coordinated, data-driven approach to regional trade and transport facilitation.

⚓𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚

The Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority is participating in the Final Validation Workshop for the Lake Victoria Safe Navigation and Multimodal Connectivity Project (LVSNMCP), taking place from 21st to 23rd April 2026 in Mwanza, Tanzania.

This workshop brought together key regional stakeholders to validate priorities and the roadmap of the project; and officially launch the Lake Victoria Basin Commission - led Technical Working Group.

This milestone engagement reflects a shared regional commitment to advancing safer, more efficient, and sustainable transport across the Lake Victoria basin.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Mr. Denis Muganga, Director for Private Sector Investment Promotion at the Northern Corridor Secretariat, emphasized that Lake Victoria remains a critical link in the Northern Corridor’s multimodal transport system, connecting economies and communities across the region.

He highlighted that the study provides a strong evidence base to guide investments, policy reforms, and coordinated interventions to enhance safety and unlock economic opportunities. He further reaffirmed Northern Corridor’s commitment to continued collaboration, active participation in the Technical Working Group, and mobilization of resources to implement priority safety interventions.

This workshop is being organized by the Lake Victoria Basin Commission in partnership with the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority, with financial and technical support from GIZ Kenya.

Today, the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority handed over a Roughometer IV device to Rwanda Transport Development Agency.

This advanced equipment will enhance road infrastructure monitoring and maintenance by enabling precise measurement of the International Roughness Index (IRI), improving road condition assessments, supporting data-driven maintenance planning, and ultimately enhancing road safety, reducing vehicle operating costs, and improving the overall transport experience across Rwanda.

This milestone reflects the strong and growing collaboration between the Northern Corridor and the Government of Rwanda in advancing resilient and efficient transport systems.

Beyond this handover, the Northern Corridor continues to partner with Rwanda through several key initiatives, including the ongoing feasibility study of the Rukomo RSS, inland waterways technical support, among others, demonstrating its sustained commitment to the country’s transport and logistics development.

Today, the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority, in partnership with the Kenya National Highways Authority, officially kicked off the Regional Highway Safety Investor’s Conference running from 31st March to 1st April 2026.

The forum brings together key stakeholders from six Member States of the Northern Corridor to take stock of progress in the Roadside Stations (RSS) programme, showcase private sector investments, and unlock new opportunities guided by national master plans and feasibility studies.

The conference is designed to attract investors to develop modern roadside infrastructure that will transform safety and efficiency along the Northern Corridor.

In his keynote, the Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor, Dr.
Deng Diar-manyok highlighted that the Corridor is steadily evolving into a globally competitive logistics and economic lifeline, driven by investments in infrastructure, digital systems, and road safety.

He emphasized that RSS facilities go far beyond rest stops; “they are strategic assets that reduce accidents, improve driver health, enhance cargo security, and stimulate local economies”.

The Guest of Honour, Hon. Davis Chirchir , Cabinet Secretary for the
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure-GoK, reinforced the vision of the Corridor by underscoring the corridor’s central role in regional trade and calling for safer, smarter, and climate-resilient transport systems.

He positioned roadside stations as high impact investment hubs under Public Private Partnerships, inviting investors to collaborate in building an integrated, efficient, and sustainable transport network that will boost trade, strengthen regional connectivity, and drive economic growth across the corridor.

Today, The Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor, Dr.

The engagement focused on assessing the implementation of Northern Corridor initiatives and strengthening collaboration to enhance trade facilitation and transport efficiency.
