The Director of Enforcement & Emergency Response attended the 2026 Nairobi Geopolitical Forum, a key platform advancing dialogue on regional security, trade, and maritime governance.
The forum, themed “Navigating Geopolitical Dynamics: Maritime Access, Strategic Corridors & Regional Stability in Eastern and Southern Africa,” convened policymakers, diplomats, scholars, and thought leaders for structured, outcome-oriented discussions on emerging risks and opportunities shaping the region.
As a panelist, the Director provided strategic insights on “Maritime Security Risks and Their Impact on Access to Trade Routes in Eastern and Southern Africa,” highlighting the need for coordinated maritime security frameworks to safeguard critical sea lines of communication and support economic resilience.
The successful event was organized by GLOCEPS, IRSK, and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Kenya Office.

The Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) conducted Safety Training for Fishers (STF) at Vanga Beach Management unit (BMU), the fishers were taken through theoretical session and a number of forty (40) fishers were trained with the aim to empower them with essential maritime safety skills, including proper use of life jackets, basic first aid, and emergency response procedures. By equipping them with the skills and knowledge to safely navigate through the waters and enhancing public safety.
Special appreciation goes to the SWIOFC-NC partnership project through the Sweden Government funding, implementing organizations (FAO), state department of blue economy and fisheries and KeFS in collaboration with the county government of Kwale for their crucial support, which enhanced the program’s success and strengthened community resilience and safety around coastal region.

Today, KCGS was visited by the Deputy Inspector General KPS, Mr. Eliud K. Langat CBS, OGW, HSC, ss, ndc(K). He was received and hosted by KCGS Director General, Mr Bruno I. Shioso, EBS, OGW. The DIG KPS was accompanied by senior NPS officers, among them Mr Peter Ndugu, SAIG - Dir. Logistics KPS; madam Catherine Mugwe, SAIG - Dir. Personnel KPS, Mr Amos Omuga, AIG - Dir Legal NPS, Ms. Christine Temko - Dir legal APS, Ruth Ruraa Dir HRm NPS amongst others. They discussed various security related issues, including better cooperation and partnerships within the maritime security and safety sub sector. DG KCGS briefed the DIG and delegation on the milestones achieved by KCGS in the security and safety of our territorial waters, and further lauded the National Police Service for continued support. KCGS senior staff was in attendance.

Today, the DG officiated the official handing over of duties for the position of Master at Arms from outgoing WO1 Timothy Barmase to incoming WO1 Lucas Leyagu at his office.The DG commended WO1 Barmase for his outstanding service and dedication, while welcoming WO1 Leyagu and reaffirming KCGS’s full commitment to supporting all officers in delivering excellent service.

Today in Nairobi, the Director General KCGS had a working partnership review meeting with Ms. Maureen Y. Mimnaugh, INL Director, and Ms. Parvathy (Paru) Sankar, INL Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy. The discussions reaffirmed mutual commitment, assessed ongoing initiatives, and charted concrete steps to strengthen future collaboration, advancing shared priorities in maritime security, institutional capacity, and strategic cooperation.

KCGS participated in today’s Border Management Committee (BMC) meeting in Shimoni, County, represented by Lt. Ali Salim from KCGS Shimoni Station. The meeting brought together stakeholders including KPA, KRA, Port Health, NPS, Immigration, and KEPHIS. Key discussions focused on enhancing routine patrols at sea,regulating business activities at Shimoni Jetty, and strengthening overall security in the area.KCGS remains committed to inter-agency collaboration for improved maritime security.

KCGS personnel in today confiscated three monofilament nets during routine patrols along Rusinga and Ngodhe Islands in Lake Victoria.
These illegal gears, banned for their destructive impact, indiscriminately capture juvenile fish, severely threatening breeding stocks and the long-term sustainability of the lake’s vital fisheries. KCGS remains steadfast in its commitment to combating IUU fishing, protecting aquatic ecosystems, and safeguarding the livelihoods of millions who depend on Lake Victoria’s resources for economic well-being.

KCGS personnel in participated in a multi-agency security meeting chaired by DCC Lokitaung. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss practical initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, harmony, and cohesion among pastoral communities around the lake.

A drowning incident recently occurred in River Migori involving a male adult. The Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) team from Kisumu Station promptly responded and deployed to Migori to conduct search and recovery operations. Efforts by the team to locate and recover the victim remain ongoing, with intensified operations continuing at the site.

Kilindini KCGS Station successfully conducted coordinated beach patrols along Pirates Beach, reinforcing maritime vigilance and ensuring the safety and security of citizens throughout this period. KCGS is committed to protecting coastal communities, deterring unlawful activities, and fostering public confidence in national security efforts. By maintaining a visible presence, KCGS officers continue to uphold order, safeguard recreational spaces, and strengthen trust between the Coast Guard and the local population. Happy Easter to all.
