I had an exciting morning today as I joined my DG HE Mahiri and County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu as we flagged off 40,000 Hass avocado seedlings to farmers in Migori County. The programme, is a partnership between the State Department of Agriculture and the County Government of Migori. The initiative strenghens our objective of diversifying our agricultural enterprises while tapping into the growing export market for hass avocadoes. The seedlings, valued at Ksh 18,000 million will increase the avocado acrage in the county to 500 acres from the current 250 acres. Tuko ground... and two term is real.

Today, I had great opportunity to connect with farmers at Sony stadium. The event organised by Sony sugar 2025, KESRETI and kenya Sugar board brought together hundreds of sugar cane farmers from Migori, kisii, and Narok Counties representing the southern sugar growing zone. The event demonstrated the latest varieties, technogies and agro inputs in cane farming and other crops with fantastic exhibitions by various private sector players. During the event, I made an appeal that Sony Sugar expands it's growing to include Kuria and other parts of the county so that more farmers can benefit from the improved sugar environment that has ensured that cane deliveries are paid on a weekly basis. The chief Guest, HE Dr Mahiri, represented Our Governor, Dr Ochilo Ayacko at the event.

I and the County Commissioner Migori Mr Kisilu Mutua, have just received the first batch of coffee seedlings for our farmers in Migori. The delivery of 50,000 seedlings valued at ksh 12.5 million will go along way towards increasing the acreage under coffee in the county. The seedlings will be distributed across all our 10 coffee cooperatives spread in Kuria East, Kuria West, Uriri and Rongo subcounties. The seedlings are part of the County Governments wider agenda diversifying our agricultural enterprises, creating rural employment and increasing incomes for our farmers. At the event, I was accompanied by the Directors Peter Ogutu (Agriculture), Justus Nyagwencha (Cooperatives), alongside the Crops and Agribusiness officers in the department of Agriculture.

I have just concluded a meeting with the leadership of the Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers. The engagement focused on several key areas that seek to strenghen our collaboration with farmer institutions and their leadership. In the meeting, we held fruitful discussions around the recently passed sugar regulations, and identified areas that require attention. During the meeting, I noted the positive gains that have been achieved, leading to prompt payments for cane delivered to Sony 2025 Company. The county Government is committed to ensuring farmers get value for the efforts in all agricultural value chains undertaken in the county and will continue providing a conducive environment for our farmers and private sector investors to work together for the benefit of our farmers. Present in the meeting was Mr Ezra Okoth, Chairman of the federation in Kenya, and the chair of Migori chapter Mr Okello Ndisio. I was also accompanied by Chief Officers Isaack Madafu (Agric) and George Ochola (Fisheries and Blue Economy). Present were my technical officers in charge of crops, Agribusiness and the Tunza project funded by FAO.
