Meru County Government Chief of Staff, Nchamba Mbithii, chaired a meeting with representatives from MaMa Doing Good, an organization founded by H.E. the First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, Rotary International and Finnish Mondial Kenya.
The non-governmental organizations charted partnership with the County Government to impart social and economic change in Meru for the benefit of its people. The collaboration will enable: the setting up of a Medical Clinic for Breast and Cervical Cancer screening with the program targeting women between the ages of 15 and 45, planting of trees through the Mama Fruit Gardens Initiative which will provide 10,000 seedlings to 30 different schools for planting, and the clean-up of Timau Municipality sensitizing residents on the importance of Waste Management and Water, Sanitization and Hygiene.
The Chief of Staff expressed the commitment of H.E. Governor Kawira Mwangaza to ensuring the betterment of Meru County, citing the resemblance between her initiatives to that of H.E. the First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto. These include Mwangaza wa Mazingira, an iniative launched by the Governor in an effort to execute the afforestation program "Adopt a Hill, Adopt a Tree" spearheaded by H.E. the President Dr. William Ruto, which has resulted in the planting of 132,795 trees across four distinct hills within the county. The same initiative has ensured the clean-up of Meru’s Municipalities including Meru and Timau.
In attendance were: Health Services Chief Officer, Dr. Joseph Wahome, Ag. Chief Officer Sports, Youth Affairs and Social Development, Monica Kagwima, Director Environment, Angelo Gitonga, Ag. County Director of Health, Dr. Koome Muthuri, Ag. Director Medical Services, Dr. Martin Thuranira, among other officials.
