WE ARE REVIVING THE BWICHA WATER PROJECT

Repair works are ongoing at The Ebwicha Water project in Matayos South Ward. This is done in phases due to budget limitations in the current financial year. Phase One being undertaken, covers key repairs and replacement of the storage tank. This which is currently in progress and by July at the latest, the project will be functional and already serving the community after which it will be extended to Matayos in the second phase.

Phase Two will commence in the next financial year, beginning July, to enable full water supply from Bwicha to Matayos for full coverage. Once completed, the project will be fully functional and serve the community as intended. The project has also been officially published on Page 8 of today’s Standard Newspaper.

The area MCA Dennis Wafula Okinda appreciates the feedback from the public and remains committed to listening, improving, and delivering sustainable development that meets the needs of the people. He continues to welcome positive criticism and constructive correction as expected of a responsive and accountable leader.

Today, Matayos South Ward MCA Hon. Dennis Wafula Okinda hosted 993 youth graduates, 52 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), partners, and stakeholders at St. Stephen Lwanya Girls National School for the Busia County youth graduation under the Inclusive Digital Futures (IDF) program.

The event marked the successful conclusion of months of training where youths were equipped with digital and creative skills to thrive in today’s economy. Hon. Okinda congratulated all graduates for their commitment and resilience throughout the program.

In his remarks, he urged the youths to "ethically use digital space"* — to create, innovate, and earn, while upholding integrity and responsibility online. He emphasized that the skills gained are tools for transformation, and called on graduates to be ambassadors of positive digital citizenship in Matayos South and beyond.

We thank the UK Government through UKDAP, Busia County Government, and all partners for investing in the future of our youths. To our graduates: the journey starts now. Use your skills to build, brand, and monetize.

PJ OKINDA TOURNAMENT 2025 (3RD EDITION)
MEMBER OF COUNTY ASSEMBLY - MATAYOS SOUTH WARD

The Member of County Assembly of Matayos South Ward (Busia) Dennis Wafula Okinda yesterday crowned the 3rd Edition winner of his Tournament 2025 at Busende Primary ground.

The two days event led by Ward Administrator Mr. Isaac Neyama and FKF Referee/Coordinator Ref. Isaac Ogutu concluded in style, LABOUR ALLSTARS emerging the winner of the Tournament.

Twelve teams participated in the tournament starting from the group stages of Four Pools each pool having three teams. On Saturday 03.01.2026, all group stage matches played in which each two teams from each pool qualified for quarter finals. Lwanya Pri. and Busende Pri. being the venue of this historic event.

The teams that qualified to quarters are:
1. Redstar - Murende Sub-location
2. Uprising Stars - Nasewa Sub-location
3. Murende Highlanders - Murende Sub-location
4. Nasewa Utd - Nasewa Sub-location
5. Lwanya Junction - Lwanya Sub-location
6. Bricks - Lwanya Sub-location
7. Labour Allstars - Nang'oma Sub-location
8. Blackstar - Nang'oma Sub-location

On Sunday 04.01.2026, quarter finals kicked off co- currently from both pitches. Murende Highlanders eliminated Uprising, Nasewa eliminated Redstar as well. Labour Allstars eliminated Luliba Hotspur, Bricks eliminated Lwanya Junction as well to book direct ticket to Semi final.

Semi finals also kicked off co- currently in which Murende Highlanders defeated Nasewa on penalty shootout and Labour Allstars defeated Bricks FC one goal. Play off, Bricks defeated Nasewa Utd (3 - 1) to emerge 3rd position and Nasewa Utd 4th respectively

The final match was between Murende Highlanders against Labour Allstars both from Nang'oma location and tied up during the normal time but Labour Allstars emerges the winner after two players of Murende Highlanders kicked the ball outside the goal posts.

The area MCA congratulated Labour Allstars and encouraged them to work hard and represent the Ward in the incoming Governors Cup.

Today we hosted Matayos South Ward Football Tournament Grand Finale at Busende Primary School. 12 men football teams participated in the ward tournament.

The ward MCA Dennis Wafula Okinda congratulated all the teams that participated and called on them to continue training for the governor's cup.

Apart from soccer balls and jerseys, the team also won cash prizes. Also present were, MCAs, County Chief officers, ward admins and staff, Matayos South Ward constituents among others.

On Sunday, the ward MCA got the chance of fellowshipping with the Bishop of ACK Nambale Diocese , during the official launch of ACK MUNDAYA PARISH. We thank the Lord for this far. We believe Mundaya, Nambere, Muyafwa and Murende Anglican faithfuls will ministered to with ease.

We also congratulate, Rev. Lucia Sambula who was appointed to serve as the vicar in charge.

Yesterday, Thursday 3rd , the ward MCA Dennis Wafula Okinda hosted student leaders from Dr. Daniel Wako Murende TVC at his home. During the meeting, the MCA called on student leaders to strategize and have many youths join the institutions.

Last year, the MCA offered scholarships for at least 20 students at that institution. He affirmed his unwavering support towards the growth of the institution. He not only donated balls to the institution's football team but also pledged to have the team supported to the next level.

Dr. Daniel Wako Murende TVC is one of the best TVC in Matayos South Ward. We call on all community members to partner with the institution in matters service delivery.

HONORING THE LATE GREG W. AKIDE

This evening the ward MCA, Dennis Wafula Okinda joined the mourners at Lwanya Primary School in Matayos South Ward in celebrating the life well lived of Late. Gregory Wabwire Akide.

The Late Gregory served in the BUSIA County Government as a chief office and was a keen developer in Matayos South Ward. The MCA called on members to ensure peace and tranquility across the ward as well as promoting development agendas, ideas and projects.

The MCA hosted the Busia County Governor, County Secretary, County Speaker, colleague MCAs, County cabinet secretaries and chief officers among others.
