HOAGW4R PROJECT BATCH 1 LOT 2 (GOLOLE): PUBLIC PARTICIPATION & CONTRACTOR SITE HANDOVER SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED.

The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP) today successfully conducted the Batch 1 – Lot 2 (Golole) Public Participation Forum and Contractor Site Handover, marking another important milestone towards improving sustainable water access and strengthening climate resilience in Marsabit County.

The exercise brought together the Sub-Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), MARWASCO Managing Director Hon. Stephen Sora Katelo - CS, Sub-County Water Officer, Team of CAS Consultant, Project Manager for the Blueswift Contractors Limited, Moyale Sub-County Administration, Assistant County Commissioner (ACC), the area Chief, the Project Management Committee, Grievance Redress Committee, Land Committee, opinion leaders and members of the local community.

The public participation forum provided an opportunity for stakeholders to understand the project's scope, implementation timelines, community roles, grievance redress mechanisms, environmental and social safeguards and the importance of protecting project infrastructure. Community members also shared their views and pledged their support to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the project.

Following the engagement, the project site was officially handed over to the contractor, paving the way for commencement of construction works.

Once completed, the HoAGW4RP intervention will significantly enhance access to safe and reliable water services for the people of Golole and surrounding areas while contributing to improved livelihoods, climate resilience and sustainable groundwater management.

Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MARWASCO) today conducted a comprehensive staff training on the upgraded WonderKid Billing Software, facilitated by a WonderKid Systems Officer.
The training brought together staff from the Commercial, Finance, ICT, Customer Care, Revenue, and Technical Departments with the objective of enhancing their capacity to effectively utilize the upgraded billing system.
The session focused on key areas including customer account management, meter reading and billing processes, revenue collection and reconciliation, reporting and analytics, user access controls, data security, and system administration. Participants were also taken through the new features and improvements incorporated into the upgraded system to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Speaking during the training, the Managing Director, Mr. Stephen Sora Katelo, emphasized the importance of embracing technology in improving operational efficiency, enhancing customer satisfaction, and strengthening revenue management. He commended the WonderKid team for their continued technical support and encouraged staff to fully utilize the upgraded system to improve service delivery.
The upgraded WonderKid Billing Software is expected to improve billing accuracy, streamline customer management processes, enhance reporting capabilities, strengthen internal controls, and support MARWASCO's ongoing digital transformation agenda.
MARWASCO remains committed to investing in modern technologies and continuous staff capacity building to ensure efficient, reliable, and customer-focused water and sanitation services for the people of Marsabit County.

Today MD Hon. Stephen Sora Katelo held a management meeting to discuss critical issues resulting in the delays in the implementation of the ongoing project of Horn of Africa Ground Water for Resilience Project (HoAGW4R).

In attendance was the supervising agent CAS Consultant and the Contractor for Batch 1 Lot 2 of the HoAGW4R, M/s Blueswift Contractors and General Supplies Limited, represented by its Director, Mr. Zakariya Sharif Abdullahi.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the implementation status of the project, assess progress against the agreed work plan, identify challenges affecting ex*****on, and agree on measures to ensure timely completion of the project.

The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4R) conducts Marsabit County stakeholder validation workshop for the drought contingency plan at Grande Hotel.
The engagement focus on validating prioritized water resource interventions to improve groundwater security and climate adaptation.

TODAY, MD MARWASCO held a high-level engagement with the team from UNICEF led by Country Representative to Kenya Dr. Shaheen Nilofer at MARWASCO Boardroom.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and partnerships aimed at enhancing sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services within Marsabit County and institutional capacity development.

The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment by UNICEF Kenya towards improving the livelihoods and wellbeing of communities through sustainable and inclusive service delivery.

Senior most officers from the Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Wildlife today held a productive stakeholder engagement meeting with the Management of Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company (MARWASCO) to review progress and discuss key priorities in strengthening water service delivery across Marsabit County.

Present during the meeting is the County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, Natural resources and wildlife Mr. Guyo Guracha, Chief officer Water Service Mr. Boru Dulacha, Chief officer Environment Mr. Abdulahi Ismail, Chief Officer NRM Ms. Pauline, Director Water Services Mr. Umuro Sharamo, Director Environment Ms. Janet, CEO Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company (MARWASCO) Hon Stephen Sora Katelo, HoAGW4RP s-PIU Coordinator Mr. Dickson Maitho and ADB project Engineer Mr. Loboyo and Technical Manager MARWASCO Mr. John Halkano.

The meeting focused on the ongoing implementation status of the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGWRP), where project have scored significant milestone in improving sustainable groundwater access for communities. For the HoAGW4R, Batch 1 (Lot 1 & Lot 2) works is already in progress.

The team also reviewed the successful completion of the African Development Bank (ADB) project that supported urban water infrastructure and Sewerage lines as Lot 1 & Lot 2 respectively. The project has greatly enhanced service reliability in Marsabit town and its environs. The Lot 2 of the project is 98% complete.

Further discussions highlighted the Department’s commitment to reviving and stabilizing critical water supply systems for Moyale Town. The project design and BQs are complete only awaiting funding from the County and FLOCCA Project. The project objective is to strengthen climate resilience and restoring functionality of strategic water facilities in Moyale municipality.

The engagement reaffirmed the strong collaboration between the Department and MARWASCO in accelerating service delivery, enhancing infrastructure sustainability, and ensuring reliable access to safe water for residents of Marsabit County.

As part of project monitoring and quality assurance, a joint site visit and inspection was conducted for Batch 1 – Lot 1 project sites for the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP) in Marsabit County.

The Project implementation unit (PIU) and Sub-Project implementation unit (s-PIU) jointly carried out project site visit and inspection of the ongoing project to assess the progress of works, verify compliance with project specifications, and identify any challenges affecting implementation.

The team visited two (2) sites Kamboe Mid-Rock and Kamboe Furmasan where the contractor has begun the construction of key infrastructure such as storage tanks, admins office and guard house and also laying of pipeline across the designated areas of specs.

Batch 1 – Lot 1 is currently in progress in Jaldesa, Kamboe Mid-Rock, Kamboe Furmasa, Log-Logo, Laisamis and Legima which aims at enhaning sustainable groundwater management and strengthen climate resilience in arid and semi-arid areas.
