Every Shell Tells a Story!

After sea turtle hatchlings emerge from their nest and begin their journey to the ocean, the empty eggshells left behind provide valuable information for conservation efforts.

Our Rangers carefully examines and counts the eggshells during nest assessments to determine how many hatchlings successfully emerged.

This monitoring helps us track nesting success, understand turtle population trends, and improve conservation strategies for these endangered marine species.

Each shell is a reminder of a new generation of sea turtles and the importance of protecting their nesting beaches for the future.

KWS Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve , in collaboration with PWAM, Malindi Tourist Police, Diamonds, Casino Malindi, County Municipal, the Kenya Red Cross, and Billionaire Resort, conducted the monthly beach cleanup exercise from Buntwani Beach to Fisheries Beach.

Together, we collected a total of 269.5 kg of waste, comprising: • Plastic – 89.5 kg
• General waste – 162 kg
• Glass – 7 kg
• Rubber – 11 kg

This collective effort highlights the importance of responsible waste management and community participation in protecting our coastal and marine ecosystems.

Clean beaches safeguard marine life, enhance the beauty of Malindi's coastline, and ensure a healthier environment for future generations.

We thank all partners and volunteers who contributed to the success of this initiative. Together, we can keep Malindi clean, beautiful, and sustainable.

Yesterday, KWS Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve proudly joined conservationists, stakeholders, and community members in celebrating the successful completion of the 19th Edition of the Walk for Wildlife Campaign led by Dr. Jim Justus Nyamu , Cde; OGW.

The 62-day conservation journey, organized through the Elephant Neighbors Center , covered the route from Nairobi through Kibwezi, Kitui, Garissa, and Tana River before culminating in Malindi.

The campaign sought to promote peaceful human-elephant coexistence, raise awareness on wildlife conservation, discourage bushmeat consumption, and strengthen community stewardship of natural resources.

We sincerely appreciate Dr. Jim Justus Nyamu for his unwavering dedication, resilience, and commitment to wildlife conservation.

Walking hundreds of kilometres across Kenya, he engaged communities, schools, conservation stakeholders, and leaders, inspiring collective action towards protecting elephants and conserving our natural heritage.

His journey has empowered communities, educated young people, and amplified the message that wildlife conservation is everyone's responsibility.

As the campaign concluded at Malindi Marine Park, we celebrated this remarkable achievement and reaffirmed our commitment to safeguarding Kenya's rich biodiversity for present and future generations.

Today, Ranger Boniface Musembi engaged Wildlife Research & Training Institute Kenya (WRTI) students in an educational session on sea turtle conservation at the beach.

The students learned about the different species of sea turtles found along the Kenyan coast, their ecological importance, nesting behavior, threats they face, and ongoing conservation efforts aimed at protecting these endangered marine animals.

Through such field-based learning experiences, future conservationists gain practical knowledge and appreciation of the vital role sea turtles play in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

Together, we can safeguard our marine heritage for future generations.
