The County Government of Machakos, on behalf of H.E. Governor Hon Wavinya Ndeti , was represented by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Irrigation, Environment and Climate Change, alongside the Director of Administration, the Governor’s Advisor on Water, and the Chairman of the MACWASCO Board of Directors, in a joint consultative meeting held at the WASREB Headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting brought together officials from the Kitui County Department of Water, KITWASCO, and Tana Water Works Development Agency (TANATHI), and was chaired by the Acting CEO of Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) in the presence of the CEO of TANATHI. The discussions focused on resolving the long-awaited transition of the Masinga service area to a Machakos-owned water service provider, currently Yatta Water Services Company Ltd, following more than a decade of pending deliberations.
During the meeting, it was resolved that TANATHI will establish an all-inclusive technical committee to facilitate a smooth takeover process involving water extraction, treatment, and bulk water offtake operations at Masinga. It was further agreed that TANATHI will commence the sale of bulk water to both Machakos and Kitui counties within the next three months, with implementation expected by the end of August 2026.
The resolution marks a major milestone and a significant relief to the residents of Masinga Sub-County, who have consistently advocated for improved water service delivery over the years. The County Government of Machakos remains committed to strengthening access to clean and reliable water services through strategic intergovernmental collaboration and sustainable infrastructure development, in line with the county’s vision of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.”
