Residents of Mtepeni, Mkapuni, and Batani areas are set to benefit from improved security and enhanced business activity following the official handover of sites for the construction of solar streetlights in the three areas.

The exercise was led by the Chief Officer for Energy, Mr. Johnson Nzai, on behalf of the CECM for Lands, Energy, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Jane Maiki Kamto.

Under the project, Mtepeni Ward will receive 15 solar streetlights, Mkapuni–Ruruma Ward 20 streetlights, and Batani–Rabai Kisurutini Ward 12 streetlights.

The installation of the streetlights is expected to improve safety, support local businesses by extending operating hours, and create a safer environment for residents and traders.

This initiative reflects the commitment of H.E. Governor Gideon Mung’aro’s administration to lighting up communities, improving public safety, and transforming unlit areas into spaces that support economic growth and community life.

Also present during the site handover exercise was the Director of Energy, Mr. Wilfred Baya.

Residents of Mwahera Sub-location in Ganze Sub-County have raised concerns after reports emerged that some community members were selling their land without fully considering its value, acreage, and proper procedures to an investor identified as Blue Vision Investor.

In response, the County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Energy, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Jane Kamto, together with the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Ganze, Mr. Steven Kariuki Gitau, moved to immediately halt the process pending verification.

The investor has been asked to present all relevant documentation, including land titles and sale agreements with the residents, to allow authorities to verify the transactions and ensure that the process complies with the law.

Hon. Jane Kamto has urged residents across Kilifi County to exercise caution when selling land and to first establish the true value and legal status of their property before entering into any agreements.

The Kilifi County Government continues to encourage residents to seek proper guidance and follow legal procedures to protect their land and avoid exploitation as stipulated in H.E Governor Gideon Maitha Mung'aro manifesto.

The Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP 2) has begun a community sensitization exercise with residents of Mibuyu Saba Informal Settlement in Sokoni Ward, Kilifi County Government

As part of the next phase of the project, KISIP 2 will undertake physical planning, land surveys, and detailed topographical mapping of the settlement. Before these activities begin, the community will establish a Settlement Executive Committee (SEC) made up of local residents to strengthen community participation, transparency, and accountability throughout the land tenure regularization process.

The committee will play a key role in mobilizing the community, verifying and validating beneficiary lists, and facilitating communication between the project teams and residents.

During the session, the National Project Coordination Team (NPCT) and the County Project Coordination Team (CPCT) guided residents on the process of establishing the Settlement Executive Committee. Present at the meeting was also the area MCA for Sokoni Ward, Hon. Raymond Dogo.

Once formed, the SEC will serve as an important link between the community and the government, helping to ensure the project is implemented smoothly and that the intended beneficiaries receive the full benefits of the program.
