Today, we joined stakeholders at the Kilifi County GEAP Close-Out Forum to reflect on the achievements realized through the Green Employment in Agriculture Programme (GEAP) between 2021 and 2026. The programme was implemented by the Micro Enterprises Support Programme Trust and funded by the Danish International Development Agency.

Through strong collaboration between the County Government of Kilifi, MESPT, farmer organizations, private sector actors, and development partners, the programme reached 6,734 farmers, facilitated the trade of over 34,779 metric tonnes of produce valued at KES 1.36 billion, and supported the creation of 319 jobs across the coconut and pineapple value chains.

The programme also strengthened farmers' capacity, promoted climate-smart agricultural practices, supported food safety initiatives, and enhanced market access through strategic investments in aggregation, value addition, and farmer certification.

As we mark the close of the programme, we celebrate the partnerships, innovations, and achievements that continue to strengthen agricultural productivity, resilience, and sustainable livelihoods across Kilifi County.

Kaloleni Sub-County is one of the areas in Kilifi County where coconut farming is thriving. Coconut palms remain a major cash crop, producing a variety of products that contribute significantly to the county’s economy.

The County Government of Kilifi, under the leadership of H.E. Gideon Mung’aro, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Blue Economy, continues to implement the Governor’s manifesto aimed at empowering farmers and boosting agricultural production.

Dr. Chula Mwagona distributed 1,200 coconut seedlings at the Kaloleni Sub-County Agricultural Centre in Kaloleni Ward. He was accompanied by the County Director of Agriculture Crops, Mr. John Safari Ziro.

The World Bank mission to Kilifi County has successfully concluded its two-day visit aimed at assessing the progress and impact of the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) Project ahead of its closure in September.

Led by World Bank Task Team Leader Ben Miranga, alongside CECM for Blue Economy Dr. Patterson Chula and Chief Officer Blue Economy Geoffrey Ngombo, the delegation visited several project sites and engaged with beneficiary groups across the county.

The team toured key sites including Kilifi Old Ferry Landing Site, Prawnslake Conservation Group, Gahaleni Vocational Training Centre, and Handshake Self Help Group, where they witnessed the positive impact of the project in improving livelihoods, supporting youth and community groups, promoting skills development, and strengthening sustainable fisheries and blue economy activities.

The visit reaffirmed the continued commitment by the County Government and partners to empowering coastal communities and creating more economic opportunities for the people of Kilifi County.
