Over 60 trainees today graduated as certified volleyball umpires following an intensive four-day training program held at the Word of Faith Church Hall in Kiambu Town. The training aimed to improve volleyball officiating standards across Kiambu County while creating employment and empowerment opportunities for young people through volleyball.
The program, spearheaded by the Department of Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication in partnership with the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) โ Kiambu Branch, has produced a new cohort of qualified umpires who will now officiate volleyball matches professionally, beginning with an upcoming tournament to be organized by the Department.
The training was officially concluded in a colourful ceremony presided over by the CECM for Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication, Ali Osman, who encouraged the graduates to make full use of the skills and opportunities gained to improve their livelihoods and contribute to sports development in the county.
Also in attendance were Chief Officer for Sports, Godfrey Masolo; Chief Officer for Youth Affairs, Communication and PR, Dr. Mercy Njoki; Chairman of the Kenya Volleyball Federation โ Kiambu Branch, Samuel Kung'u; Director for Sports, Dorcas W. Muthoni; Sports Commissioner, Chege Gitangu; Sub-County Youth and Sports Officers, among other stakeholders.
