The Department of Finance has deployed emergency funds to support ongoing drainage interventions in parts of Githunguri, targeting flood-prone valley sections that have been cutting off access to homes and key feeder roads during heavy rains.

The most affected areas, Kiawamatu (Mufasa), St. Monicah Miguta, Miathathia and Kwa Boat often experience seasonal river overflows that disrupt movement for residents.

To address this, installation of 900mm culverts are currently underway at St. Monicah Miguta, Kwa Boat, Kiawamatu and Miathathia areas in Ngewa Ward. 600mm culverts are also being installed at four ways Kiairia in Githunguri township ward.

Once complete, these interventions will significantly improve drainage, restore access, and enhance mobility and connectivity.

The Department of Finance, ICT & Economic Planning has deployed emergency funds to fast-track the installation of 10 culverts (900mm) along the Kahunira–Ngeteti–Kagaa road at Kaminditi River in Githunguri Township Ward, following persistent flooding caused by heavy rains that has been cutting off access.

The intervention will restore connectivity between Kahunira, Githunguri and Kagaa in Lari, ensuring safe connectivity for dairy and tea farmers, school-going children, and the wider community.

This road cutting and culvert installation is part of ongoing efforts to mitigate flood risks and maintain access to essential services during the rainy season.
