As Kenya turns 60 years, it is disheartening that girls iñ marakwet East are being Held hostage by barbaric cultural practices like Female Ge***al Mutilation. The news fròm Embobut my ancestral land that a law enforcement officer lost his life because he was protecting the dignity of a girl is shocking to say the least. Mý deepest condolences to the family and friends of the officer. He should be vetted post humously as an hero and defender of the dignity of the marakwet girl child.
Female ge***al mutilation is a rettogressive culture just like bandittry and cattle rustling" just like slavery and racial discrimination. They belong to yester years' not our time.
The killing of a law enforecment officer yesterday by angry mob of culturally charged women is an eye opener on the risks that such cultural practices poses to our peace and progress as a nation.
Marakwet East has been left in the peripheral margins of the kenyan society and such cultural practices has continued to thrive .
It is a wake up call that progressive leaders should focus on awareness; on empowerment of local communities and streghtening the rule of law .
