Juja House

Juja House A rare piece of Kenya’s living history. Over the years, it has served as a hunting base, farm residence, and a family home.

Built in the early 1900s on Lord McMillan’s Juja Farm, this unique prefabricated home was shipped from Birmingham, England. Juja House was built in 1905 from a house kit shipped from Birmingham, England. Lord McMillan was a Scottish-born American who was raised in Missouri before moving to Kenya. In recognition of his military record, King Edward of England knighted Lord McMillan even though McMil

lan was not British. Juja House is the first home McMillan built on the Athi plain and served as a working farm with its own hydroelectric dam, telegraph office, stables, and more. American President Theodore Roosevelt stayed at Juja House during his big game expedition in 1909. Juja House served as a stopping point for many travelers on their way to Naivasha or Mt. Kenya and was famous for its hospitality and comfort, despite its distance from town. Today Juja House is being restored with an eye toward historical accuracy so that it can once again serve as a hospitality and events center. Be sure to check back for updates as plans develop!

Number 26, Teddy Roosevelt, holds two crowns. He was the youngest person to assume the US presidency, and the most badass of them all.
