The majority of people living in communities adjacent to Lewa Conservancy are small-scale farmers. In line with our core belief that empowering communities is the most sustainable path to conservation, we work with more than 5,880 farmers to improve agricultural productivity through climate-smart practices including water harvesting, drip irrigation, soil health management, certified drought-resistant seeds, and organic fertiliser use.

Expos are where this work truly comes to life.

These events bring together farmers, agricultural experts, researchers, and private sector partners in one space to exchange knowledge, see demonstrations, and connect directly with solution providers.

Farmers gain practical, hands-on exposure to climate-resilient techniques, improved seed varieties, better pest management approaches, and clean energy and fodder innovations that strengthen both crops and livestock systems.

Through this shared learning, knowledge becomes action, and action becomes impact: stronger harvests, more resilient livelihoods, and healthier landscapes where people and nature thrive together.

Good news from the Lewa-Borana landscape! 🦓

During last month’s survey, we recorded 234 Grevy’s zebras, including 207 at Lewa Conservancy and 27 at Borana Conservancy. Among them were 28 foals and 7 juveniles, a promising sign for the future of the world’s most endangered zebra species.

You would be hard-pressed to look across the landscape without spotting an impala. They are the area’s most common antelope with a population of 2,375. They are followed closely by Burchell’s zebras at 1,824 and Grant’s gazelles at 1,309.

These numbers reflect a remarkable trend of long-term growth. Since 2016, the impala population has more than doubled from 1,113 to 2,375, while Grant’s gazelles have boomed from just 348 to 1,309. It’s clear proof that our ecosystem is thriving and providing a safe, healthy habitat for these plains game to flourish.

Team Lewa was thrilled to take part in the Safaricom PLC CEO Run, held earlier today as a precursor to the upcoming Lewa Safari Marathon.

The event brought together participants from all walks of life, united by a shared purpose: raising funds for wildlife conservation and community development initiatives.

Competitors took to the course across four distances, including a 21km half-marathon, a 15km race, a 10km race, and a 5km fun run/walk.

📚 $949,666 has supported education through school infrastructure, curriculum support, and bursaries, opening doors for thousands of young learners.

⚒️ $227,849 has strengthened local livelihoods, helping families build sustainable incomes.

👥 $984,994 has been invested in community conservation in northern Kenya.

🌿$8,815 has supported ranger welfare, backing the frontline heroes who protect wildlife every single day.

The job holder must possess:

• A Diploma in Business Administration, Public Administration, Project Management, Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (minimum requirement).

• A Bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage.

• 3 to 5 years of experience in administrative and financial coordination, preferably within conservation, security, NGO, or donor-funded environments.

Today is World Environment Day, and this year’s theme, “A Global Call for Climate Action,” hits incredibly close to home. We are so proud of the students at Lewa-supported schools, who have truly walked the talk when it comes to protecting the planet.

Since the long rains started, these young eco-champions have been busy planting trees, harvesting rainwater, tending to school gardens, and mastering waste management. They are completely transforming our schools into green, thriving spaces, and they are bringing those great habits back to their homes and neighbourhoods.

These young change-makers are living proof that real climate action starts right where you are. Every tree, every saved drop of water, and every piece of recycled trash adds up to a healthier, more sustainable future for all of us.
