EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES THROUGH COOPERATIVES AND AFFORDABLE FINANCE IN EMBU COUNTY.

I had the honour of accompanying Her Excellency the Governor of Embu County, Hon. Cecily Mutitu Mbarire EGH, during a cheque-giving ceremony held at KALRO Embu grounds, where Ward SACCOs, Community Driven Development Committees (CDDCs) and Dairy Cooperatives received financial support under the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).

The support is a significant investment in strengthening our grassroots institutions, expanding access to affordable credit and creating sustainable economic opportunities for farmers and communities across Embu County.

Ward SACCOs:
Nine Ward SACCOs received a total of KSh 7.292 million, benefiting 3,939 members. The funds will enhance their capacity to provide affordable and accessible loans to farmers and other community members.

CDDCs:
Nine Community Driven Development Committees received a combined KSh 291,600 to support community mobilization, recruitment of farmers into SACCOs and Farmer Producer Organizations, and strengthen participation in agricultural value chains.

Dairy Cooperatives:
Three dairy cooperatives received KSh 1.078 million in Inclusion Grants to support operations, member mobilization, branding, digital connectivity and acquisition of basic dairy equipment.

In addition, Kanja Community Dairy Cooperative Society received approximately KSh 6.93 million under the Enterprise Development Grant to invest in a 30 KVA solar system and milk-handling equipment, enhancing its capacity and efficiency.

The County Government has also cumulatively supported all 20 Ward SACCOs with KSh 15 million in Inclusion Grants, demonstrating our continued commitment to building strong and sustainable community financial institutions.

Speaking during the ceremony, H.E. Governor Mbarire emphasized that these cheques should not be viewed merely as grants, but as seed capital for stronger SACCOs and cooperatives, increased agricultural production, job creation and improved household incomes.

I urge all beneficiaries to use the funds strictly for their intended purposes, uphold transparency and accountability, promote a culture of saving, embrace digital systems and ensure that loans reach genuine farmers and small businesses and are repaid to allow the funds to revolve and benefit more members.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Deputy Governor Hon. Justus Kinywa Mugo, Embu County Senator Hon. Alexander Munyi Mundigi, Mbeere North MP Hon. Wamuthende, and Members of the County Assembly including Hon. Lenny Masters (Kiambere), Hon. Julius Karuri (Kithimu), Hon. Mbaka John Ngari (Mavuria), Hon. Weche Peter Njeru Njiru (Muminji) and Hon. Duncan Muratia Nyaga (Evurore).

Also present was my colleague, Waziri Kago John Mugo of water, Environment and Irrigation, Chief Officers led by CO Agriculture Mr. Stephenson Njeru Muita, Agriculture Department staff and other distinguished guests.

As the County Government of Embu, we remain committed to putting farmers and communities at the centre of our development agenda by expanding access to finance, strengthening cooperatives, improving agricultural value chains and creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

COFFEE REVIVAL PROGRAMME COUNTIES SENSITIZATION IN EMBU

Wednesday 22nd July 2026.

The Coffee Revival Programme County Sensitization meetings continued yesterday (Wednesday 22nd July 2026) at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Embu, bringing together stakeholders from Embu, Kirinyaga, Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties.

The aim was to deepen awareness and strengthen collaboration towards the revitalization of Kenya’s coffee sector.

The sensitization meeting was led by Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development, Hon. FCPA Dr. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, EGH.

He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to reviving the coffee sector through strengthened cooperative societies, farmer empowerment, institutional reforms and sustainable value chain development.

The forum provided an opportunity for County leadership, Cooperative officials and key stakeholders to align on the Coffee Revival Programme and reaffirm their shared commitment to restoring Kenya’s position as a global leader in premium coffee production.

DELIVERING THE PLAN IN AGRIBUSINESS:

PLANNING FOR AGRIBUSINESS EXHIBITION - THURSDAY 13-08-2026, UGWERI GROUNDS

Today, on behalf of Her Excellency The Governor, Hon. Cecily Mutitu Mbarire EGH, I had the pleasure of receiving Mr. Elvis Kiplagat of Re*****on Africa, an agribusiness event and marketing company dedicated to connecting farmers with input providers through tradefairs, exhibitions, and farmer training programs.

I am pleased to announce the upcoming Farmers' Exhibition scheduled for 13th August 2026 at Ugweri, Kagaari South, which is expected to bring together over 2,000 farmers and more than 30 agribusiness companies.

The exhibition will provide practical solutions and technologies to address challenges across various crop and dairy value chains, creating valuable opportunities for learning, networking, and business growth.

The event is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Embu County, demonstrating our shared commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector.

KENYA CENSUS OF AGRICULTURE [KCA] 2026.
Monday 20th July 2026.

On behalf of Her Excellency The Governor, Embu County Hon. Cecily Mutitu Mbarire EGH, I had the pleasure of receiving a team from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

Led by Ms. Elizabeth Mukami, the team paid a courtesy call as they officially commenced the Kenya Census of Agriculture 2026 (KCA 2026) in Embu County.

The nationwide census, which will run for the next 60 days, seeks to collect accurate and up-to-date information on Kenya's agricultural sector to support better planning, policy formulation, resource allocation, and food security.

In Embu County, the exercise will cover approximately 400 agricultural institutions, alongside other agricultural activities across the county.

I was accompanied by the Chief Officer for Agriculture, Mr. Njeru Muita, as we welcomed the KNBS team and re-affirmed the County Government's commitment to supporting this important national exercise.

I appeal to all our farmers, agricultural institutions, and stakeholders to cooperate fully with the KNBS enumerators by providing accurate and timely information. Your participation is vital in ensuring reliable statistics that will inform future agricultural development and improve services to our farming communities.

Together, let us support the Kenya Census of Agriculture 2026 for a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous agricultural sector in Embu County.
