To our community,
To best mitigate impacts of Typhoon Ampil, we recommend all residents:
• Ensure you have an emergency kit on hand. Emergency management officials recommend a kit that includes nonperishable food, water, medications, personal water filtration systems, extra batteries in correct sizes, flashlights, local maps, a brightly colored plastic poncho, a deck of cards and other ways to pass the time and reduce stress, a battery-operated or hand-crank radio, and a first-aid kit.
• Check the area around your quarters to prep for the storm. Secure loose items that could be blown away by heavy winds and ensure storm drains are not blocked.
• Get ready for power outages. Ensure you have extra water, keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and if conditions worsen, disconnect electronics that could be damaged by electrical surges.
• Evaluate any upcoming travel plans and make safety your No. 1 priority.
• Fill your vehicles with gas.
• Very slightly open windows if you see flooding in your windowsill tracks; doing that reduces the pressure and allows the sills to drain properly.
• Move high-value items away from windows.
• Keep pets indoors during the typhoon.
• Roll up carpets and move away from doors.
• Please secure all trampolines, turning them upside down and weighing them down for safety.
Let’s all continue early preparations and let’s make safety our No. 1 priority!
Now is the time to review your family plan, check your emergency kit and stay safe.
